Old fashioned girls names

We want our little girl to have an old fashioned name that isn’t popular. Our favourite bake for a while was Elsie but then we realised how popular it was and changed our mind. Any ideas?

Of your shortlist Ada is the prettiest.
For the love of God do not call her Enid.
Pearl is also sweet.

We are doing our family tree at the moment, and these are some of the names and middle names of my now deceased relations if that’s old enough!

Annie, Ann, Maud, Veronica, Susan, Dolly, June, Violet, May, Ethel, Enid, Edith, Esme, Isobel, Doretha, Dorothy, Hannah, Doreen, Mair, Louisa, Dulcie, Winifred, Vivienne, Gertrude, Elizabeth, Hazel, Harriet, Mavis, Mabel, Freda, Frannie, Francesca, Greta, Victoria, Sylvia, Sally, Agatha, Margot, Elsie, Elspeth, Betty, Beryl, Betsy, Rosemary, Antonia, Patricia, Dilys, Polly, Millicent, Charlotte, Eve, Fanny, Ivy, Iris, Juniper, Clarissa, Daisy, Posey, Prudance, Faith, Hope, Margaret, Queenie, Rebecca, Rachel, Tuppence, Ursula, Rhiannon, Josephine, Moira, Marlene,

I must admit I’m disappointment we haven’t come across any ‘different’ names, names that aren’t run of the mill. Although strangely 6 of the names were contenders for my dc, before I was aware that I had past relations called the same. (Sorry if some of the spelling is wrong).

I had a close relative called Sylvia Margaret. Good name.

I like Mary, Enid and Pearl.

I would avoid Ada as it might be misheard as Ava.

McShakey · 13/07/2019 13:27

That’s Pearl not Pear😂

Enid is cruel. As is Ethel.

Barbarafromblackpool · 13/07/2019 13:20

Enid is a great name.

TroysMammy · 13/07/2019 13:16

Also my name is hardly ever mentioned on the baby name board.

McShakey · 13/07/2019 13:16

@Quintella I’m really not sure what your issue is. I’ve said I like the name Enid, never said I will go for it in the end. If you don’t like it that’s fine, thanks for letting me know. But there’s no reason to keep commenting the same thing over and over.

I’ve got no issue with people saying they dislike a name. But there was nothing helpful from that previous poster, and at first I didn’t tell them not to post but they carried on being rude. It wasn’t helping me get suggestions on names, so I asked them if they had no suggestions not to post as we clearly had different opinions on a name. I understand the nature of this site.

McShakey this is not the kind of forum where being the original poster/ thread starter gives you the right to tell people not to post. It's the kind of forum where there is robust discussion. That's the style of the site. If you need to be the thread police and only wish to hear from only want to read posts from sycophants this is not the forum for you.

Rayna37 · 13/07/2019 12:59

There are some lovely suggestions on here, I do know of a Martha or two. I do remember my Mum (Susan!) refused to believe the neighbours had called their new baby Winnifred until she heard it from them herself and my friend's Dad thought his granddaughter Molly had a ridiculous name not knowing that was pretty normal now. Things move on.

McShakey · 13/07/2019 12:58

I like Effie and Peggy. I think we have our list now. Thank you everyone!
