Rebecca

DH and I both like Rebecca. I'm not sure if it's the one... would appreciate advice on the following please!

Is it dated? I don't like the current popular names so want something classic.

What nicknames could we use? Would rather avoid Becky as we have a Becky in the family (not too close)

Any ideas for middle names? Surname beginning with S.

Can you think of similar classic names that I might love more? (I've spent a long time looking but Rebecca is what we both keep coming back to)

I have a Rebecca and our surname starts with an S too. She gets called Becca and hates Becky with a passion. She is 21 now and she says she likes her name.

GMtoBe · 13/07/2019 13:30

I have 2 friends called Rebecca. One goes by Becca and the other by Becks. Beautiful name though. How about Rebecca Kate?

Fatkins · 13/07/2019 13:23

I really like it and don't think it's dated. It's a classic name and I think it still gets used. I've overheard it occasionally from parents speaking to their preschool aged DDs. It isn't overused or trendy though which I think is a good thing. The most en vogue names today will be the ones which date the most imo.

It's a gorgeous name.

Fifthtimelucky · 13/07/2019 13:18

I like Rebecca and if you want a middle name beginning with S would go for Sarah.

Biancadelrioisback · 13/07/2019 13:15

I don't think that name dates tbh. It's a classic, like James.
I know one Bex and one Rebecca. It's a well known name but not overly used so I don't think you'll end up with several close friends sharing a name if you know what I mean

MikeUniformMike · 13/07/2019 12:59

Rebecca is a biblical name so is a classic. It has been hugely popular in the past so could seem a bit dated.
If you love it, use it.
Rebel is a brilliant nn. Becca or Becky more run of the mill.

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 13/07/2019 12:43

My friend's little 5 year old Rebecca is known as Rebel.

Rebecca is a classic, I don't think it's dated.

Looneytune253 · 13/07/2019 12:39

I know a 14 year old Rebecca Leigh. In the same family there's an Emma too

StarStruckBy1 · 13/07/2019 12:37

It is too dated. I think of a middle aged 30-50 year old woman.

Ramona?

Theparkingtroll · 13/07/2019 12:28

I know a 2 year old Rebecca who’s known as Rebi. Lovely name!

Bellsandholly · 13/07/2019 12:24

The oldest Rebecca I know is 45-50
I know 2 who are 18/19

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/07/2019 11:50

Rebecca Lois
Rebecca Lucy
Rebecca Maude
Rebecca Naomi

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 13/07/2019 11:47

Rebecca is gorgeous. Yes its is dated, but That doesn't have to be a bad thing. At least you know there's a strong chance that she'll be the only one in her class. Do you want her to be one of 7 Olivias in her class.
Maybe Bea or Bea-Bea would work as nn, if you don't want Becky.

I'm a Rebecca, also called Becca and Becs. Middle name Ann hence the unfortunate RAG initials 😂

bridgetreilly · 13/07/2019 11:05

Could also consider Rebekah which is (a) closer to the original Hebrew and (b) a bit cooler and more contemporary, weirdly.

Rebekah Elise
Rebekah Juliet
Rebekah Ivy
Rebekah Maud

Rebekah Lois

My Rebecca 21 is known as Becky ,Becks or Becca, middle name May (family name for generations)
We have a relative in her 30s and she is Rebecca and nothing else

Pastaalldaylong · 13/07/2019 08:38

Classic lovely name.
Rebecca Sophia?

Ellmau · 13/07/2019 08:37

MN Selina, Serena

Starrynights86 · 13/07/2019 08:37

Most rebecca’s I know tend to go by Becca.

I like to use family names for middles names, are there any family names you like that go with Rebecca? Otherwise Rebecca Lucy or Rebecca Kate are quite nice.

finallychangedmyusername · 13/07/2019 08:36

Rebecca is beautiful. Alternatives in a similar vein: Louisa, Abigail, Rachel, Sarah, Laura?

Julykthat · 13/07/2019 08:35

I know three Rebecca's ranging in age from 6 to 46. I love the name and the two younger Rebecca's are known as the full version of their name, no diminutive.

NigesFakeWalkingStick · 13/07/2019 08:34

I'm a Rebecca. I love my name, but hate the nickname Becky. Becks is probably the most common nickname I have.

I wouldn't say it's dated but I haven't heard recently of a baby named Rebecca. I think it would be a lovely choice, not overly popular but also not hugely dated.
