I've always really loved this name for a girl but curious what your thoughts are?!

Anya is lovely.

As an aside, without being snarky, I'd just like to point out that Aine isn't pronounced 'arn-ya' as a pp says, it's more like 'awn-ya'.

(And before I'm picked up on it, yes I know Aine has a fada (accent) on the A, but I can't do it on a tablet)

Paddingtonthebear · 10/07/2019 18:28

I quite like it. I like short, sassy names.

I know an adult Anya, a teenage Anya and two Anya’s under age 4

Thank you for all your replies! Love this name so much so glad everyone else likes it also Smile Never seen Buffy so don't associate it with that at all, Only heard it once from the movie Anastasia - her name is Anya for short.

Reminds me of the Irish name Aine (pronounced Arn-ya) which I like.

kfh · 10/07/2019 11:21

It’s lovely 😊

Ohyesiam · 10/07/2019 11:19

Pretty
Sparky
Self contained
Mildly exotic in a Scandi way

CockleburIck · 10/07/2019 11:18

Lovely name. I taught a lovely Anya once.

diddlediddle · 10/07/2019 11:18

Lovely

spiderlight · 10/07/2019 10:55

Love it!

monsieurmarius · 10/07/2019 10:43

I love it! Timeless and elegant. I know an Anya, Anja and Ania (the latter is polish) so you can choose from several spellings too!

PolkaDotHoneyPot · 10/07/2019 09:39

I love it! It's uncommon/unusual without being weird. Works for all age groups. Depending on where in the country you are it will be pronounced On-ya or Anne-ya. Personally I prefer the first.

kittytiggy · 10/07/2019 09:36

My brother's DD is Anya - love the name! She is Annie too.

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/07/2019 09:32

I need to check my posts more rigorously. Suitable, no not required.

small2018 · 10/07/2019 09:31

Beautiful!

I agree- Anya is is great Buffy name.

99bb · 10/07/2019 09:12

It’s a lovely name.

Also Buffy, but not in a bad way at all.

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/07/2019 09:10

It a very lovely name. Pretty but not suitable for an adult and child.

Fluffiest · 10/07/2019 09:06

I like it and would also associate it with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

But Anya is awesome in Buffy so that's a good thing

Felyne · 10/07/2019 09:03

Love it. Used to babysit a wee (3yo) neighbour with that name and she was a sweetheart.

Doublevodka · 10/07/2019 09:02

I love it but it's my DD's name. It's a very popular old name in Poland and Russia. (I'm half Polish).

Astronica · 10/07/2019 08:59

I really like it. It feels smart and international to me.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 10/07/2019 08:59

I like it. Elegant and a bit unusual, easy to spell, would translate easily into other languages if she lives abroad.....

HeronLanyon · 10/07/2019 08:58

I too would spell it with a j - like it. Would think instinctively if some German ? Scandinavian ? Family heritage somewhere.

Fallofrain · 10/07/2019 08:54
