Still can’t decide between 2 names...

I’m 32w & having DS2. DS1 is called Noah (we liked it before it became popular).

Debating between Ezra & Asa (pronounced “Acer” like the tree). Middle name will be Michael.

Was pretty much settled on Ezra but I’m fed up of DH saying we’ll go with that because “we can’t come up with anything better!”. Asa has better nn potential (I LOVE Ace) but Ezra possibly sounds better with Michael? Argh I’m fed up of going round & round.

P.s I’ve never understood waiting until you meet baby. If I had done that with DS1 we would have named him Garden Gnome.

Please help!!

I love Asa and wish I had the opportunity to use it.

AnnieDianaLulu · 11/07/2019 08:31

I absolutely loooooove the name Noah, I hope to have a future son to give the name to Grin I do like both names, but prefer Ezra.

Sophronia · 10/07/2019 23:14

Asa Michael

Gertie75 · 10/07/2019 23:09

Definitely Ezra, ASA is the Advertising Standards Authority

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 10/07/2019 12:30

Personally don't think Zeke Michael sounds good together, I like Ezra Michael, like a pp said Asa seems like an acronym and I can't help but think when you say acer it sounds like your using it as an adjective eg my son's acer than yours... 😂

happytobemrsg · 09/07/2019 21:35

I also think Ezra can sound a bit harsh when the “z” is stressed @user1498549192. I tend to pronounce it more like an “s” to soften it but I know that’s not correct & no-one else will.

It’s pronounced “Zeek” @LoveB

I prefer Asa.

How do you pronounce Zeke?

user1498549192 · 09/07/2019 21:13

I think Asa is lovely.

I know Ezra is very popular, but it always sounds very harsh to me.

happytobemrsg · 09/07/2019 21:00

We’ll be sticking with the traditional Hebrew spelling @squirrelnutkins1 as DH is Jewish

happytobemrsg · 09/07/2019 20:59

Can you name a boy Zeke as a first name & not Ezekiel??

OP posts:
squirrelnutkins1 · 09/07/2019 20:46

Spell Acer like the tree and it won't be mispronounced. I know one of each. Both nice names.

happytobemrsg · 09/07/2019 20:45

* naming* boys, not making boys 🙄

aibutohavethisusername · 09/07/2019 20:43

Ezra

happytobemrsg · 09/07/2019 20:42

We definitely want to go with a Hebrew name @Yawninfinitum as DH has a very Jewish-sounding surname

If anything @LauraMontreville we make Noah’s name longer as we call him by his first two names - Noah John

My sister also thought of an ISA @Happyhouralways 😂 and YES making boys are so frickin hard!!! We had lots of girl names picked out but boys are so difficult.

Certainly where we live (S.E) the pronunciation shouldn’t be a problem with Asa.

DH threw another name out there last night - Zeke (short for Ezekiel I expect??). Just what we need - another name by dad won’t be able to pronounce 😂

I don't think you should worry about pronunciation. I think it's pretty obvious how to pronounce Asa really. And if people do get it wrong all you have to do is tell them how to pronounc it. It's not a difficult name to say.
Having said that both names are nice and they both go well with Michael.

MamaFlintstone · 09/07/2019 19:23

Much prefer Asa. I can’t think how you would pronounce it apart from the way you’ve said so I’d be surprised if you had to do a lot of correcting.

Frith2013 · 09/07/2019 19:20

Asa. I know an Asa and he seems to carry the name off well!

Omzlas · 09/07/2019 08:00

Ezra

Aca reminds me of Acer, who make some sort of electronic, laptops I think

Happyhouralways · 09/07/2019 07:12

I like how both names sound and think they sound good with Noah and Michael as middle name ..... but seeing Asa written makes me think it’s an acronym for something financial (like ISA?!) Good luck, naming boys is hard!

SallyWD · 09/07/2019 07:06

Ezra is much nicer

LauraMontreville · 09/07/2019 07:04

What nickname do you call Noah?

Yawninfinitum · 09/07/2019 07:02

Asa

Ezra and Noah are very biblical. They may be what you choose to project but if it isn’t I’d consider it.

Janleverton · 09/07/2019 07:02

And Asa Michael sounds better than Ezra Michael to my ear.

Janleverton · 09/07/2019 07:01

I would pronounce Asa as Acer like the tree. SE London.

Janleverton · 09/07/2019 06:59

I much much much prefer Asa. Have a good friend in his 40s called Asa. It’s timeless IMO.

Ezra - I don’t like really. Something about the Z in the middle. I don’t know whether it’s come from a book (my reaction) but it sounds sinister to me. Wracking my brains for why, but failing!
