Beatrice is much nicer than trix. More elegant and flows better.

Marnie is meh.

septembersunshine · 12/07/2019 13:54

Beatrix! Bea for short (prounounced Bee).
My dd best friend is Beatrice and is Bea. Such a good name.

Marnie sounds like a poor man's Marie/Maria. Like a mash up of two other names. Just sounds a bit off. Just my opinion.

Pinktinker · 12/07/2019 13:30

I have a DD called Beatrix, it’s a very cool name.

Unsure why girls need ‘pretty’ names anyway Hmm. I hate fluffy names.

Marnie is a name that is suddenly popping up everywhere! I like that it's a clunky old name that's getting a revival. Not many nicknames for it though.

Beatrix is a great nod to Beatrix potter and Bea or Trixie are quite cool nicknames. Would it bother you that most people pronounce it 'beer-triss' but some people pronounce it 'Bee-Triss'? For me that was what really put me off.

I have a daughter named Marnie. The reason we chose it was varied but mostly how it fit with our surname, an informal nickname type worked best as the surname is quite harsh

Bellecurves · 09/07/2019 23:43

Marnie if you live somewhere with rhotic r sounds.

bridgetreilly · 09/07/2019 23:29

Beatrix. Much nicer than mardy Marnie.

bruffin · 09/07/2019 07:21

3rd Marnie thread recently, Hitchcock movie about a psychologically damaged woman.

Astronica · 09/07/2019 06:56

Easy one - I love Beatrix and really dislike Marnie. Harsh sounds must be subjective because I think Marnie sounds harsh (and dull at the same time if that's possible.) Beatrix has everything going for it.

Pemba · 09/07/2019 03:45

Marnie I like. Would prefer it to be a nickname for something, eg Marianne, but it's fine as a complete name.

Beatrix is fairly harsh as a pp said. Beer tricks. No. Beatrice is slightly nicer but I think they're both very of the moment.

doubleshotespresso · 08/07/2019 23:59

Love Beatrix but to be honest Marnie doesn't feel like a proper name to me though I'm unable to explain why?!?

Mammalian · 08/07/2019 23:57

Love Marnie

Sophronia · 08/07/2019 23:56

Beatrix

Ellmau · 08/07/2019 19:56

I think Marnie's going to date. Beatrix is lovely.

Whoops75 · 08/07/2019 19:23

Beatrix

Emelene · 08/07/2019 19:01

Beatrix is fab!

growlingbear · 08/07/2019 18:57

Beatrix. But I like them both.

DramaAlpaca · 08/07/2019 18:56

Marnie.

Clownfish123 · 08/07/2019 18:54

I'm a bit torn on this one. Beatrix is cool but it does have a harsh sound. I love Bea or Trixie though as possible nn's.
Marnie is a bit... meh. It's neither here nor there, but it is quite a nice sound and I can imagine it growing on me. They are quite different names.

2littleninjas · 08/07/2019 18:28

Marnie!!

popcorndiva · 08/07/2019 18:27

Beatrix because when I see Marnie I think of that girl from Geordie Shore

pushchairprincess · 08/07/2019 18:21

Beatrix - I love this name !! (you can do so much with it when she's older Bea, .....Trixie ..)

Zoobluebabypink · 08/07/2019 18:16

Beatrix
Marnie reminds me of that Geordie Shore woman

Shadow1234 · 08/07/2019 17:22

Marnie - Dont like the harsh sound of Beatrix

BelindasRedPlasticHandcuffs · 08/07/2019 17:06

Beatrix!

Marnie makes me think of mardy....
