Which of these names for a baby girl to honour her recently departed grandmother Anne?

Anna or Annie

ShinyMe · 13/07/2019 20:01

Oh, and my mum always calls me Annie (because I was obsessed with the Annie film when I was a kid).

ShinyMe · 13/07/2019 20:00

I'm an Anna so I'm biased, but it is a good name. My parents picked it because everybody can always spell it and pronounce it, wherever I go in the world.

(However, I've ended up living in Derbyshire, where everyone spells it with an H on either end, but that's a minor thing).

Anne

Sorry crossposted. Great idea!

Annie

Anna is lovely and classic, not at all plain.

Astronica · 13/07/2019 02:08

I love your plan! Anna and Annie are both lovely and she can use both names in different contexts. I think based on my own experience that you can go a long way towards picking the nickname.

septembersunshine · 12/07/2019 14:20

Love the plan. Was going to suggest Annabel ( so thst she has a name for herself but also honors grandma) with Nn of Anna or Annie but your idea is perfect!

Frith2013 · 10/07/2019 13:09

Sorry, I see you’ve decided! Annie is a good name.

Frith2013 · 10/07/2019 13:08

How about Aine? Pronounced Arn-ya?

LookImAHooman · 10/07/2019 12:28

Excellent plan, sloane. Condolences on your loss. I think even if you hadn’t had the convo with your DM, using such a strong influence of someone’s name (ie it doesn’t have to match it) is a wonderful and generous way to honour them. It is the thought and that influence that’s important.

sloaneBear · 10/07/2019 06:51

Thanks everyone. I think we have decided on Anna with the nickname Annie. I know you can’t force nicknames so it may or may not stick but that’s our plan right now.

PrincessLouis · 09/07/2019 22:12

Anna is my fave

Clawdy · 08/07/2019 20:35

Anna. Really don't like Annie.

DickieDonkey · 08/07/2019 19:34

Order of preference

Annie
Anya
Anna
Anne
Ariana

I also really like Annika.

BBInGinDrinking · 08/07/2019 15:08

PS I also agree with others that names incorporating the Anne sound would also honour her grandmother perfectly. My favourites are Roseanna and Annabel. The first would work if granny loved roses, the second adds beauty to Anne.

BBInGinDrinking · 08/07/2019 14:54

Anna. It is a classic, but I readily admit to being a little biased because one of the best people I know in the world is called Anna.

Take care of yourself OP. Speaking from experience, being a new mum and a close bereavement makes for an emotional rollercoaster of a time. Flowers Brew

Pitapotamus · 08/07/2019 14:42

Arianna is a lovely name!

DexterMama · 08/07/2019 14:39

Annie or Anya for me!
