Boys names-opinions please!

Due DC2 soon & am stumped for boys names. Neither DH nor I have any names we "love" and it's more of picking which names we "don't mind" as our dislike list is very long! We downloaded the kinder names app & matched on 1 name (DH says he isn't 100% on the name either-Max!)

We have lots of girls names but boys is another story.

Our list currently
Ethan (DH's suggestion)
Max
Flynn
I love the sound of the name Odin but don't think I can realistically use it!
I like Everett but DH is not at all keen

We both like Max but DH thinks it feels too short although we aren't so keen on Maximus/Maximilian/Maxwell etc. Would really appreciate any opinions on the few names above to hopefully help us along the way as we're at a standstill!

@cellissia it's so hard isn't it?! DD has a name we both loved way before we thought about actually having children & still love her name so it feels a bit strange to pick a boys name that we "don't hate". We had another discussion at the weekend and are no further on. Max is the name I've had in my mind for the longest so when I think of a boy, it's the name I imagine using so I'm trying to get past that in case DH doesn't agree (he isn't especially keen currently). He keeps suggesting names that are 1-2 letters different to DD's name 🙈 I know he loves her name but the second one deserves its own name...plus how confusing?!

Odin is lovely (would definitely be my top choice) and Flynn is nice too! Max is ok but there seems to be 2 or 3 in every class around here, it depends if it being 'popular' would bother you.

hungergame · 10/07/2019 05:27

We have an Odin in my family, think it's lovely! We had Thorin on the list so no different really. I say go for it!

cellissia · 09/07/2019 21:31

Hi sugarsprinklesrainbowdrops! We are on the same boat actually. We are expecting a boy in September and still hasn't decided on a name and like you said it's more like picking a name that we don't mind but we are strongly thinking about Odin too. It's mainly the sound of the name really also on the other hand I'm a huge admirer of Norse myths and stories.
Leo is my favorite but we unfortunately named our cat last year which has died. I still remember him with good feelings but everyone else in the family just disagrees with me.. sad.. anyways I also think about Theo but not really sure. go for Odin of you like it, the more you search the more you find annoying things about any name!!

sugarsprinklesrainbowdrops · 09/07/2019 21:30

@mrslaurenbrown it'd just be Max rather than a lengthened version. Not sure if it's too short though!

I like Maxwell and Ethan. Not so sure on Flynn and Odin.

Gummibaersy · 09/07/2019 09:16

I took my GS to an activity every week when he was preschool. There was an Odin and a Thor. Nothing wrong with the names but they did get eye rolls

I can't see what would be 'eye roll worthy' about either name? I wonder where you live?

thedevondumpling · 09/07/2019 09:02

On a more positive note I think Max and Ethan are both lovely names.

Maxim is lovely as well.

thedevondumpling · 09/07/2019 09:00

I took my GS to an activity every week when he was preschool. There was an Odin and a Thor. Nothing wrong with the names but they did get eye rolls, it always felt like it was all a bit of a performance with mothers being very libaterian and apparently neither ever had "no" said to them and it did show so I suppose that has put me off a bit.

Gummibaersy · 09/07/2019 08:47

Odin is lovely and much more memorable than Max (there are so many Maxes).

Fatkins · 09/07/2019 08:36

<a class="break-all" href="https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DlkvRrxI4R6c&ved=2ahUKEwiq08ujqafjAhUIUcAKHfP3DvcQwqsBMAB6BAgDEAU&usg=AOvVaw06Zs2czXE6q2sMz3f7JvD9" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DlkvRrxI4R6c&ved=2ahUKEwiq08ujqafjAhUIUcAKHfP3DvcQwqsBMAB6BAgDEAU&usg=AOvVaw06Zs2czXE6q2sMz3f7JvD9

It's in Anchorman! "Oh great Odin's Raven"! Not that this would sway me either way.

Fatkins · 09/07/2019 08:33

Thor is a name too I believe. And yes, Odin does have a similar vibe.

Otis is a lovely alternative, less deity-like suggestion.

sugarsprinklesrainbowdrops · 09/07/2019 06:32

Thanks everyone! It looks like Max is fairly well liked which is good- I think it's probably my front runner but I don't feel 100% for some reason. I love Odin but was worried it was a bit like calling them Thor.

I'm hoping that if it's a boy, he "looks" like a name to help me along otherwise there's a real fear he'll be nameless until the naming deadline.

  1. Max - not too short
  2. Flynn
  3. Everett
  4. Ethan - not keen on this
Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 08/07/2019 23:13

I love the name Odin!

mollpop · 08/07/2019 23:11

I like Ethan. Not keen on Everett though.

I think Seth is a lovely name

Fatkins · 08/07/2019 16:24

I like Max, but none of the others. I don't think it's too short either.

Ethan is a bit down-market where I live. Odin sounds borderline comical, as it reminds me of Will Ferrell for some reason...? Does he make a joke about it in a movie? Anyway, that's what I think of.

Everett is too much like Elliot which I don't like either.

Sparklypurpleunicornsaremyfav · 08/07/2019 14:54

Just based on a couple on your list, Oscar or evan

mondler · 07/07/2019 23:00

I like them all! Max on its own works fine. Going by your choices have you considered Elliot or Marcus?

Lavenderblues · 07/07/2019 21:37

Max is boring and overused imo

I like Flynn or how about Quinn?

Prettylittlelady · 07/07/2019 21:32

Really love Max. I think it’s a lovely stand alone name but if you want to make it a nn of a longer version I think maxwell is nice.

CassianAndor · 07/07/2019 19:01

I like Ethan a lot.

Max is sooooooooooooo boring.

ShowOfHands · 07/07/2019 18:55

My new nephew is called Odin.

I love it!

Shadow1234 · 07/07/2019 18:52

Max is my preferred choice on your list
Not keen on Ethan (prefer Nathan with nn Nate)
Flynn - ok name

Zac/Zachary
Micah
Elliott
Torin

Hayls17 · 07/07/2019 18:29
