Thoughts?! I can’t decide whether it’s cute or awful! Not Stephanie btw, just Stevie

Do grown men really want to be called Stevie? It sounds so cute and feminine to me.

Stephen or Steve is ok for a man.

anothernotherone · 07/07/2019 15:26

I don't really like it because I don't like nicknames as full names and don't like the eeee veee sounds right next to each other - it sounds a bit whiney to me.

It actually made me think of Stevie Smith first, great poet though she was a bit morbid and suffered from poor mental health like a lot of prolific poets. Her real name was Florence though, Stevie was a nickname unrelated to her given names. Stevie Nicks was a Stephanie not full name Stevie.

It's not as bad as some boys nicknames as girls full names but a significant number of people would assume that it's short for something.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 07/07/2019 15:24

I'm sorry but you asked.

I really dislike it.

dessertequila · 07/07/2019 15:20

I would assume she was a boy tbh. It's not an obvious unisex name like Riley or Bayley or apparently Aubrey judging by the other thread...

SheSaidNoFuckThat · 07/07/2019 15:12

Another one thinks of Stevie Nicks, who is a total legend - go for it

Lavenderblues · 07/07/2019 15:10

Stevie is cute and works fine for a girl.

Slomi · 07/07/2019 14:57

I knew a Stevie a few years ago. Her real name was Stevana I think which I had never heard of before. I like it, but you would be setting her up for a lifetime of "What is it short for?" in my opinion, OP Smile

LaBelleEpoque · 07/07/2019 14:54

Baby girl called Stevie in 'the let down'. Great Australian series about new mums. I like it.

BertrandRussell · 07/07/2019 14:53

If you wouldn’t call a boy Evie, don’t call a girl Stevie.

Shmithecat2 · 07/07/2019 14:52

Love it. I know a delightful young lady (known since childhood) with that name, so I guess I have positive thoughts about the name. And, Stevie Nicks, obvs. She's cool too.

feelingverylazytoday · 07/07/2019 14:51

Reminds me of Stevie Nicks, and the Stevie B perfume from the '70s.
So it's a 'yes' from me, OP.

FindaPenny · 07/07/2019 14:51

First thought is it would be cute. I think it would be better if it was a nickname for something else, but it's still nice. Only little issue is it sounds like skeevy.... But that's not a big problem.

bigmap · 07/07/2019 14:50

I know a both a little girl and little boy called Stevie so it's not totally obscure. I think it's great and wouldn't worry about options. Things will be very different when our kids are looking for jobs and non traditional names won't even register as unusual.

DramaAlpaca · 07/07/2019 14:50

I thought I'd hate it, but on thinking about it I quite like it.

Sexnotgender · 07/07/2019 14:48

Reminds me of Stevie from madam secretary, always thought it was great.

Littleheart5 · 07/07/2019 14:46

Can I ask why kitty? I’m slightly concerned it’s a bit chavvy (sorry for use of that word but can’t think of another way to say it!!)

OP posts:
kittytiggy · 07/07/2019 14:40

I'm going to break the pattern here and say I hate it Shock

I usually love tomboy names for girls, for example I love Billie but I have to admit I can not stand Stevie even for a boy.

YahBasic · 07/07/2019 14:38

I grew up with a Stevie. For a while, she went by Evie, but went back to Stevie.

I love it, and would love to use it if I didn’t have a male best friend with it!

lizzlebizzle33 · 07/07/2019 14:37

Love

Littleheart5 · 07/07/2019 14:37

All positive is nice! Agree that Stephanie isn’t great, hence just using the nickname. Although I take the point that she would have no options after that!!

Moominfan · 07/07/2019 14:36

I just love it

squirrelnutkins1 · 07/07/2019 14:35

My bestie at juniors was a girl stevie. Never heard it again. Just reminds me of a lovely pal 😊

PleaseGoogleIt · 07/07/2019 14:34

I really like it and considered calling DD is because DH is Steven but decided it was a bit much with them both together!

FriarTuck · 07/07/2019 14:33

I like it as a nickname but there's no way of shortening it if she doesn't like it later in life, other than Steve. If she finds it too masculine then she's buggered. I don't like Stephanie though so I wouldn't pick that instead and shorten it.

Birdie6 · 07/07/2019 14:33

I love it. Reminds me of Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac.
