Frankie
If you heard the name would you think boy or girl?
And do you like it?

Frankie as a full name, I’d assume they were a boy

If it was a nn I’d assume they were female

NapsAndTea · 07/07/2019 17:55

My cousin (girl) was Frankie.
We've had 2 at my school, one boy one girl. I like it for a boy x

Lavenderblues · 07/07/2019 15:14

Feminine and cute.

I can't imagine any fully grown man would want to be called Frankie Hmm.

Catscakeandchocolate · 07/07/2019 14:13

Boy. But either way I really don't like it. Have known 3 Frankie's and all of them have been not very nice children and shockingly badly behaved, so I realise this colours my view.

Fifthtimelucky · 07/07/2019 09:38

I'd think girl as the only ones I know are female (ranging from 20 to 80+).

Cbeebiesrehab · 07/07/2019 08:34

Unisex to me so wouldn’t necessarily think either when I heard it. I know both girl and boy Frankies.

SushiForAmateurs · 07/07/2019 07:58

DD's best friend, 9, is Frankie (short for Francesca), but always goes by Frankie.

I also have a friend with a 5YO DS called Frankie (real name Francis), but again always goes by Frankie.

I prefer it for a girl. Not keen on Francis - but then again, DS has a name that is not at all liked on MN, and goes by a diminutive, so I'm not one to talk.

diddlediddle · 07/07/2019 06:24

All the frankies I know are girls. I like it for s girl. I think frank for a boy is cool. Then again, I can't bear boys names that end in "ie", I find it unbearably twee.

devilishlygood · 07/07/2019 06:19

My aunt is Frances, she’s glamorous and lovely. She’s always been Fanny for short. I know a Frankie, clearly Frances but only ever Frankie. Unfortunately she’s an absolutely hideous being!!

Interestingly I also had an Uncle Frank. He was actually a great uncle, born 1930s. As far as I’m assured, he was Frank, not Francis. I quite like Frank. It’s...well....honest? Frank! It’s much more ‘old boys’ name for me, can’t imagine looking at a baby and thinking, ‘...definitely Frank!’

But Francis is absolutely AWFUL!!! It’s so...I just can’t put my finger on it. Seems like a cruel name to give a kid if you ask me. Which you inadvertently have. Sorry!!

Greyhound22 · 07/07/2019 05:22

Frank is a lovely name. I think Frankie is a bit 'cutsie' I'm a bit anti cutsie names as I think there's a bit of a trend for names that will suit babies but a 40 year old might find a bit cringy (Frankie not being the worst by a long stretch).

I think Francis is lovely and them he would have the choice as he grows up :)

AwkwardSquad · 07/07/2019 05:21

I met a lovely young mum on the bus the other day; her little boy was called Frankie although she said they generally call him Frank. He was about 2, I think.

babycakes1010 · 07/07/2019 04:48

Love Frankie! My youngest ds has the name tho apparently on Mumsnet it's a girls name....yet to meet a girl called Frankie!!!

Wherearemybloodykeys89 · 07/07/2019 04:18

Love it for a girl! Not so much a boy

AverageMummy · 07/07/2019 02:53

I’d think either & that the child was a Francesca or Francis

Shadow1234 · 07/07/2019 01:16

I would also think girl.

DickZillaofTheVilla · 07/07/2019 00:51

It’s more common for girls recently. It’s probably one of my least favourite names for either. I don’t even know why I dislike it so much Confused

JetsetJetlaggedJaded · 07/07/2019 00:49

My dad was Frankie (Frank) as a boy and now my daughter is Frankie (Francesca)...

if you like the name don't let some random strangers on the internet put you off! Smile

Oflawrence · 07/07/2019 00:27

Could be either. And I love it!!!

Bourbonbiccy · 07/07/2019 00:19

We have a little frankie, boy, in our extended family. So I immediately think boy

BobTheFishermansWife · 07/07/2019 00:10

Both, my best friend has a Francesca, nn Frankie, and I think of Frankie Valley and the 4 seasons or the band Frankie goes to Hollywood when people say Frankie and both are male in my head.

Snowy81 · 07/07/2019 00:06

I would think girl.

How about franklin?

HoratioNightboy · 06/07/2019 23:52

I'd think boy, as I come from a long line of Francis/Frank/Frankies, and at least one male in each branch on that side have it either as a forename or middle name. I narrowly avoided being a Frances myself (thanks mum!), but poor brother copped it as a middle name. I'm not a fan of it in any form, and would recommend anything else instead!

aibutohavethisusername · 06/07/2019 23:33

Girl

Nonameyet1 · 06/07/2019 21:11

I would have thought boy.

grufallosfriends · 06/07/2019 19:22

Girl

It sounds feminine and quite 'cute'
