Thea Grace??? Honest Opinions!

Give it to me straight. I’d much rather have honest opinions now rather than my poor daughter being stuck with a bad name later.

What are your thoughts on Thea Grace?

We really love the name Thea! We aren’t sure if we should just go with Thea as a stand alone name or if Theodora nn Thea is better. If we did go with the later we have no intention of ever calling her Theodora. Is it silly to chose a name that is never used? Is Thea a legitimate, respectable stand alone name that will age well? Would she be better served to have the option of Theodora? Is Thea/Theodora a bad choice?

Grace is a sentimental family name so we are pretty set on using it. I know it’s a little blah and a common “filler” middle name, but it has a lot of meaning to our family.

Like I said, I really want your honest thoughts. You won’t hurt my feelings. Thanks so much!!

@MissKittyCrush it's on my list too! But I wasn't sure about it however after saying it aloud again last night when replying to your post I am now totally in love with it!!

I felt it "looked" a bit masculine when written down but it's so gorgeous, strong and feminine when you say it aloud.

It's now been bumped up a few spots my list😊

I asked for people's thoughts on a FB group that I am in and it got a very positive response!

Thanks so much for all of your responses. I’m glad there hasn’t been an overwhelmingly negative response and that you don’t seem to think we are crazy in using Thea as a stand alone name. Choosing a name for a human is hard!!! I appreciate everyone’s feedback

Love Thea.
Personally Grace is a name I dislike- the hard g is jarring, the gr is like a grrrrrowl and the whole name just makes me think of a scraping sound. It's faintly old fashioned and, with its religious associations, makes me think of long boring days in Sunday school. I've never been to Sunday school.

While I do like it overall, Thea does sound a bit abbreviated to me. Like part of the word has been cut off.

I hate Theodora and other feminisations of male names similar to that.

I’d go for Althea Grace, it sounds more complete to me - you can still call her Thea. But then I love the name Althea!

Thea is a lovely name, but, also agree with 'OkPedro' - that as long as people don't pronounce it as 'fear' then it's fine.

I think it's a bit bland, but there is nothing "wrong" with it.

Thea as a standalone name is fine. Dorothea could be an alternative. I agree, Theadora is not so nice.

I'm sorry, and I realise I'm in the minority here, but I really dislike Thea. To me it sounds weak, wet & lispy, it's not a strong name at all. And if you live in certain parts of the UK it'll get pronounced the same as 'fear', which isn't great.

But my opinion is irrelevant, if you love it that's what matters.
