Thea Grace??? Honest Opinions!

MissKittyCrush · 05/07/2019 21:46

Give it to me straight. I’d much rather have honest opinions now rather than my poor daughter being stuck with a bad name later.

What are your thoughts on Thea Grace?

We really love the name Thea! We aren’t sure if we should just go with Thea as a stand alone name or if Theodora nn Thea is better. If we did go with the later we have no intention of ever calling her Theodora. Is it silly to chose a name that is never used? Is Thea a legitimate, respectable stand alone name that will age well? Would she be better served to have the option of Theodora? Is Thea/Theodora a bad choice?

Grace is a sentimental family name so we are pretty set on using it. I know it’s a little blah and a common “filler” middle name, but it has a lot of meaning to our family.

Like I said, I really want your honest thoughts. You won’t hurt my feelings. Thanks so much!!

Thea Grace is nice. Personally I wouldn't bother with Theodora if you're never going to use it. My friends daughter is Thea and it definitely works as a stand-alone name.

Absolutely love it

BarryMcguigan · 09/07/2019 14:32

The only Thea I've ever known is mid 30s and pronounced 'Tay-ya' hence my question earlier in the post :)

I think it's a lovely name but if you are worried about it being too popular I think it will be very popular next year - they have just announced that the new Bill & Ted movie will feature their daughters Billie and Thea. #partyondude

Sophronia · 07/07/2019 23:37

Thea is very “now” and will date.

lilpumpsmum · 07/07/2019 23:08

Thank you!

Ok, I'm not keen on Thea then Grin

Divgirl2 · 07/07/2019 22:35

Thea is pronounced like Mia (Mee-ah) but with a soft "th" sound (as in throw or Theadora).

lilpumpsmum · 07/07/2019 22:11

Is it Thea like theory?

Prettylittlelady · 07/07/2019 21:46

I think it’s a really beautiful combination. Lovely :-)

tabbiemoo · 07/07/2019 18:50

I like it but prefer Theodora nn Thea. I love long names that can then be shortened I don’t think it matters that you would only ever call her Thea. Alternatively Athena nn Thea.

lilpumpsmum · 07/07/2019 18:25

I'm still struggling with pronunciation even though someone upthread explained it. I know of one (she's French) who pronounces it Tay-ya so my head can't cope lol

autumnkate · 07/07/2019 17:38

It’s nice OP but very trendy at the moment if that bothers you

Nonameyet1 · 06/07/2019 21:09

I have a Thea (she’s 4) luckily no one has called her ‘fear’.

It’s a gorgeous name.

jackstini · 06/07/2019 20:21

Lovely - both middle names of 2 of my nieces!

Chloe9 · 06/07/2019 20:03

TurquoiseAndPurple · 06/07/2019 19:53

florascotia2 · 06/07/2019 19:40

OP - are you worried about popularity? Because, as others have said, Thea has shot up the statistics recently.

I love the name Thea.

It was on my list for dc2.

QueenOfThePumpkins · 06/07/2019 18:11

I love it! Definitely use it alone, not Theodora. We will be using a "shortened" name if we have a girl, and have had a similar discussion. We concluded that as long as it is strong enough to stand on its own (which Thea definitely is IMO) then there is no point going with the "full" or longer version :)

Divgirl2 · 06/07/2019 18:06

It's very pretty but both names are very "now", so there is a chance it'll date badly. I'd go with Theadora on the BC - then she has the option of Dora if there's 12 Theas in her class.

Frith2013 · 06/07/2019 17:39

I quite like it.

MikeUniformMike · 06/07/2019 14:37

Not keen and she could well be one of several Thea Graces in her peer group.

AloneLonelyLoner · 06/07/2019 08:04

Thea Grace is a splendid name. Top marks!
