Giving baby same name as old family pet?

Would you do this? We had a dog called Alfie growing up, he passed about 6 years ago. We are due a baby soon and love the names Archie and Alfie, we're put off Archie after the royal baby as it'll probably sky rocket in popularity now. DH thinks I'm being silly vetoing Alfie because of an old pet. Opinions?

It's fine, my dog is called the name I picked for my son (we had a girl)

I like a baby name that happens to be that of a childhood pet, but I'm put off as I know my parents would think I named my baby after the pet. I have no fond memories of the pet - it was grumpy and spoilt - so I definitely wouldn't be naming my baby after it!

My ds has the same name as a dog I had when I was a child!!

I wouldn't have an issue naming a child after an old pet.

Not keen on your names though (sorry, it's a baby name board so you're going to get loads of opinions).

Congratulations 😊 I think it's fine... I was tempted to do something similar as I'd chosen my child hood pets name as it was my favourite but I had a girl instead

I did. DS has the same name as the pet dog I had when I was 7.

Alfie is really popular and has been for ages but otherwise unless your pet is called something like Wellington or Rover I think it's fine to name a child after a pet
