Sol for a boy..... Yes or No?
How would you pronounce it?
Does it work well as a Stand Alone Name?
Would it go with older brother Noah?
Thanks.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Ok. I’m going to bite, be charitable, and assume this is real.

Let’s try the supermarket/summer test.

Imagine shouting “Noah, Sol” out of the back of the house on a hot day. Or across a supermarket.

Try it.

laurabmummyof3 · 04/07/2019 21:36

I like it! But i also prefer the alternate spelling - Saul. 🍀💙

devilishlygood · 04/07/2019 21:33

My only concern is would it be fair for one child to have popular name (Noah) and be able to buy things with his name on and one child not (Sol)?

If that is literally your only concern, then I think you’ve probably found a suitable name for you. Sometimes life is tough! 🤦‍♀️

That would be the least of my concerns Hmm

whitehalleve · 04/07/2019 20:24

I know one. A little boy. It's pronounced Sol how else can you pronounce it?

mondler · 04/07/2019 20:15

Prefer Solomon. How about Cole?

NameChange30 · 04/07/2019 19:37

Sol doesn't work as a stand alone name, sorry but it sounds like a nickname

heartoftheocean · 04/07/2019 19:26

Would only use Sol not a longer version. I'm not a fan of giving longer names with a planned nickname. I prefer shorter names and calling my child said name from the outset.

babysharkah I think Saul changed his name to Paul after going blind and finding God although it’s been some time since I read the Bible

NameChange30 · 04/07/2019 18:28

Solomon is OK
Saul is much nicer (I'm biased on that though Smile)

babysharkah · 04/07/2019 18:26

I like it, don't like Saul, and didn't he kill himself in the end in the bible?

LittleKitty1985 · 04/07/2019 17:54

I prefer Saul

mindgoinground12 · 04/07/2019 17:52

I like it but agree not a standalone. Solomon is nice but it is also
Short for Solway- but that's quite niche!

Azure83 · 04/07/2019 17:50

I know a boy called Solin, nn Sol. I think it's pretty cool.

AnonymousP · 04/07/2019 17:47

Absolutely love it! I think it goes fine with Noah.

Absofruitly · 04/07/2019 17:13

Might it be confused with Saul though? In some accents Sol and Saul would be pronounced the same.

MoodLighting · 04/07/2019 17:11

I really like it, I'd give the longer name Solomon so he has some choice later on

BarryBarryTaylor · 04/07/2019 17:10

I really like it, I may have to pinch it Grin

MmeBufo · 04/07/2019 17:06

It's a great name meaning Sun as others have said. Sol and Noah are good together although Solomon and Noah is a slightly better combo.

gingerchick · 04/07/2019 17:00

Makes me think of arse ‘ole but appreciate his may just be me

bobstersmum · 04/07/2019 16:54

I don't like it sorry, it sounds like a nickname.

elliandher5 · 04/07/2019 16:37

I'd just pronounce it as it's spelt - Sol (like the ol in molly)

I'm not keen. It just sounds a bit made up and incomplete imo.

showmethegin · 04/07/2019 15:30

Just makes me think of the beer, sorry!

grufallosfriends · 04/07/2019 15:29

How else other than Sol could it be pronounced?

I don't like it much, it doesn't sound like a mans name and literally means sun!

Solomon is ok.

bridgetreilly · 04/07/2019 15:26

I'd pronounce it 'Sol'. Like, I literally can't think of more than one way to say that.

But I wouldn't give it as a standalone name. It's short for Solomon. Which goes well with Noah.
