Hi,
What do you think of a name Bianca please? Is it so bad as I heard from someone? Apparently it is spoiled by a tv character which I don't watch.
I love the name, in my country it is spelled Bianka. Do you think I should go for it or give up?

No it’s so harsh sounding, like Ulrika. Bianca just doesn’t do it for me at all. But you know what they say, different strokes for different folks

Prettylittlelady · 29/06/2019 07:05

Honestly? I just think of Patsy Palmer and hear it the way it sounded when it was screeched across Albert square lol

RumpoleoftheBaileys · 28/06/2019 20:34

RICKKKKKKAAAAAAYYYYY

MikeUniformMike · 28/06/2019 20:28

Lovely but there's the EastEnders association.

Hungrytiredandcold · 28/06/2019 15:21

RICKAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!!!

JazzyJelly · 28/06/2019 14:21

Makes me think of the well behaved daughter from taming of the shrew. Lovely sound though.

BettyBooJustDoinTheDoo · 28/06/2019 14:19

Just be warned OP the character Bianca is re joining Eastenders shortly apparently, so the association with that character will continue. If you name your child Bianca please whatever you do, do not let her wear a silver puffa jacket!

awuszka · 28/06/2019 14:14

Yes, I'm Polish. I really don't like Katarzyna;) so overused, too popular. Bianka is not common in Poland at all.
But yes, we live in the UK

I would pronounce more like 'Bee-yanka', the polish way. I'm not sure how to write this sound down to be honest

I’m in my early thirties and I know of the Rickaaaay thing but I don’t actually remember it as such (if that makes any sense at all?!).

No one her age will know and half the parents won’t know or remember. It’s a lovely name.

DottieLottie1 · 28/06/2019 07:55

I quite like it but pronounced Bee-ank-ahh as opposed to the awful American version of Bee-Onk-err

Kokeshi123 · 28/06/2019 01:16

Surely the RICKAAAAAY thing is long gone and will be irrelevant for anyone remotely close to her age? It's such a lovely name. Use it!

Bibi or Bee is a cute nickname too.

feelingverylazytoday · 28/06/2019 00:06

I like it, and I'm British and couldn't care less about the Eastenders character.

AverageMummy · 27/06/2019 23:30

I’m 34 so think “rickkkkkyyyyy”

But her generation won’t think that at all. It’s a lovely name. And Bianca in Eastenders might be a bit rough round the edges but I quite liked her.

Snoopy90 · 27/06/2019 23:12

Such a beautiful name. No one her age is going to associate it with eastenders.

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 27/06/2019 23:02

I know a little Bianca. Think her parents are eastern European - it's a lovely name. Kids of her generation won't have any negative associations but some parents might. I think this will die out over time.

Yinyen · 27/06/2019 23:00

Sorry it's a big no from me. I know a Bianca and she has every other new person make a joke about it. Are you Polish? Use Katazyna such a beautiful name.

SleepWarrior · 27/06/2019 22:58

While there is the negative TV character association for a lot of people, it's actually a lovely name and I reckon a real life little girl would quickly displace the TV Bianca in people's minds.

Mainlandeurope · 27/06/2019 22:57

I've never even watched EastEnders but I know about Bianca! Probably won't matter if you don't live in the UK though

3boysandabump · 27/06/2019 22:54

I don't like it but I'm in the North East and I think it's the accent up here that ruins it tbh.

SemperIdem · 27/06/2019 22:35

I think it is a lovely name.

Audrey is making a comeback despite the Coronation Street connotations, so I see no reason why Bianca can’t too.

Would you be pronouncing it Bee-an-ka or Bee-ahn-ka? The latter will separate it again from Eastenders.

Nonameyet1 · 27/06/2019 22:13

If you live in the UK it’s a big no I’m afraid. I can’t even see past Eastenders (the tv programme it was on!)

ReganSomerset · 27/06/2019 21:18

I don't know the soap character and your child's peers are also unlikely to. For everyone that matters, Bianca will become your dd, regardless of who they currently associate it with. I wouldn't let it put me off.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 27/06/2019 21:08

My first bike was a Raleigh Bianca. Lilac and pink with white wheels. Beautiful!

Fortunately I always remember that over the soap character.

awuszka · 27/06/2019 21:07

Thank you all for your opinions - positive and negatives, it's helpful to see that there are not only negative ones;)
I really really love this name. Yes, we are Eastern European parents.
Any more opinions please?
