James as a girls name?

Hi all,

I met a little girl called James the other day, at first I thought it was weird but now I’ve got to know her it’s really cute and suits her. I’ve heard of a few other girls names James and I was wondering what everyone thought of it as a girls name?

James is a great name for a boy.

It seems terribly 'try hard' and hipster to call a girl James.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have a dd called James. As does Kristin Cavallari.

School friend was Kelly. A boy. Years of being on the girl's list and ridiculed.
Jamie maybe but not James.

I think a celebrity has a girl James? Jaime is a girl's name and it's not a million miles away so I don't see a problem really.

I think they use it as a girls name more often in the U.S. I quite like it. Wouldn't use it though.

We have "boy Ali and girl Ally" in the same class at my children's school. "Boy James and girl James" would be somewhat bizarre, but that is, I suspect, what would end up happening

CaitlinEJ · 22/06/2019 17:09

Just clarifying, I’m never going to use it as a girls name.

Don't be ridiculous. James is a boys' name.

Would you call a boy Rebecca, Lucy or Susan? No? So don't call a girl James.

UnderPompeii · 22/06/2019 17:04

What now? That's like having Alice as a boys name.

QueenofCBA · 22/06/2019 17:03

Why? I teach a “Dylan, but she is a girl”. Your dd would forever be known as “James the girl” and, at my school, be ridiculed for it, too.
