I seem to be drawn to short simple names (although there are some exceptions).

What are your thoughts on these? I’m wondering if pregnancy hormones are drawing me to the unusual....

Alba
Thea
Heidi
Alma
Lyra
Ada

In which case I think Lyra and Thea are the two loveliest and most memorable from your list Smile "a" names all blur into each other a bit for me, Ada, Ayla, Alma, Anna, anya, etc. Thea and Lyra both have personality and are "proper" names that are neither too unusual nor too common.

Pinkmouse6 · 19/06/2019 12:53

I love Ada.

DontCallMeShitley · 19/06/2019 11:51

Eva
Ivy
Rosa
Vera
Marie
Lena/Lina
Ena/Ina

DearLady · 19/06/2019 11:44

What about Lorna?
Is anyone called that nowadays...

Inis · 19/06/2019 11:42

But Ada wasn’t cool for your grandmother’s generation. Now it’s retro-chic. Not to mention a relief from the omnipresent Sophie, Olivia, Amelia/Emilia/ Isabelle/Isabel/Isabella etc.

Aurorie11 · 19/06/2019 11:39

I’m biased on Ada, it was my grandma’s name and she loathed it. Loved my grandma lots but would never give a child of mine that name given her view

Inis · 19/06/2019 11:34

I have two friends in their forties called Heidi, and both of them are mortified by their name, on the grounds of tweeness and conjuring up images of little dirndl-clad Swiss girls skipping about on mountains with goats being winsome. One of them says that anyone her age or older tends to hum the theme tune to the TV series of Heidi which I vaguely remember from childhood. The other says it's just not an adult name.

What I don't like about it is that it's a diminutive of Adelheid, and I think it doesn't stand up alone.

Millypolly90 · 19/06/2019 11:26

What about
Mara
Lyra
Gia
Lola
Dita
Belle
Della
Lana
Dora
Alix
Anna

Owlbert · 19/06/2019 10:36

Heidi is my favourite!

yellowellies · 18/06/2019 22:30

DH had a random 1 syllable rule, so the girls names on our lists were
Kate
Zoe ( not quite 1 syllable!)
Tess
Jayne
Eve
Jean
Joan

ReganSomerset · 18/06/2019 20:26

If you like the weird and wonderful, there's Thyra.

Soubriquet · 18/06/2019 20:26

I really like the name Eve

I have done for several years but it won’t go with my surname (one syllable surname too)

Shadow1234 · 18/06/2019 20:24

Lyra is my favourite on your list

AverageMummy · 18/06/2019 20:17

@diddlediddle I have no desire to follow the ‘unusual / unique’ trend but unfortunately a lot of names have been used by relatives - for example Anna / Clara / Lily / Ellen are just some of the names taken.
If anything I’m nervous of going too unusual & ending up in to ‘weird’ territory

@WineIsMyCarb thank you
Although no I don’t live in an affluent area at all!

I like Heidi and Alba from your list.
I see a pp has suggested Hope, I was going to put forward Faith.

diddlediddle · 18/06/2019 17:57

They're all nice. Some are more unusual than the others but tbh they fit with the girls name trend for the last 2-3 years of 4 letter names ending in "a" - so even though if you look up the numbers of girls named each one separately they won't be very high they all seem familiar. Which is neither good nor bad just saying that I don't think you're necessarily being drawn to unusual names! They're pretty.

bridgetreilly · 18/06/2019 17:33

Thea and Ada are lovely. I don't really like any of your other suggestions, sorry.

MynameisJune · 18/06/2019 14:55

We had Thea on our list, I think it’s lovely. Also had

Gaia
Asha
Olive
Hope
Erin

MikeUniformMike · 18/06/2019 13:58

Gail
Erin
Jane

MikeUniformMike · 18/06/2019 13:54

Kim
Zoe
Jill
Cara

WineIsMyCarb · 18/06/2019 13:47

Unhelpful, maybe, but short names on my list were:

Chloe
Anna
Freya
Laura
Zara

From your list I love Heidi. Will genuinely be uncommon, whereas I think there might be a few of the others about if you live in a 'naice' / middle class /affluent area.

All the best for the rest of your pregnancy

BlueChampagne · 18/06/2019 13:39

Less keen on Alma and Ada. How about Zoe?

AudacityOfHope · 18/06/2019 09:52

I LOVE Alba!

AshQ · 18/06/2019 09:51

Really like Heidi
