I just realised that 2YO DD is actually has a Martin in her daycare class! Maybe it is coming back into favour?!

ReginaGeorgeous · 14/06/2019 08:57

I have a cousin named Martin. Kids at school used to call him Fartin.

spiderlight · 13/06/2019 19:06

Just Max. Maximillian is a bit much, and Martin drinks real ale and wears hand-knitted beige cardigans.

Owlbert · 13/06/2019 18:38

*that

Owlbert · 13/06/2019 18:37

Martin is one of those names like Keith or Barry thar just doesn't seem right on a baby! Maximilian is better but friends would definitely call him max!

pineapplebryanbrown · 13/06/2019 12:04

I adore Maximilian it's racy and cool like a 40s film star. However, it's too much to live with and Max is a great name.

Martin is a no from me. It's a Pamela / Pauline imo.

dripdropdrip · 13/06/2019 12:01

How about Marty?

Kanga83 · 13/06/2019 12:00

I like Martin/Martyn. I never used to but with the amount of made up and hyphened names it's quite refreshing. I don't like
Maximilian, he will forever be known as Max which is not for me.

Lavenderblues · 13/06/2019 11:59

Nothing wrong with Martin, but nowadays it's out of favour for a baby.

That's exactly why some of us like it - It's interesting and not overused!

diddlediddle · 13/06/2019 11:11

Martin is cool. Still popular in France and I think will make a come back so you would be ahead of the curve. It's a nice sound. I know a toddler called Martin.

In fact, if you think about it, it fits with the nature trend at the moment!

BettyUnderswoob · 13/06/2019 11:02

The Martins I know are not old enough to hang out with Barbaras , Margarets and Brians, they are Martin Sheen age

Martin Sheen (I like him too) is 79!

Malvinaa81 · 13/06/2019 11:01

Just Max.

Nothing wrong with Martin, but nowadays it's out of favour for a baby.

BalloonDinosaur · 13/06/2019 08:40

@tiramisu1 I know, it's just one of those names that I imagine people get when they hit a certain age. Like Kenneth. Can't imagine a baby Kenneth, I'm sure they must all change their names once they hit 60 ish Grin

MikeUniformMike · 13/06/2019 08:34

Just Max.
Martin seems dated but is OK.
Maximilian is nice but a bit too long.
Maxim is nice too.

Lavenderblues · 13/06/2019 07:42

Max is overdone. Martin sounds refreshing.

tiramisu1 · 13/06/2019 07:37

All the 40+ year old Martins were once babies too Wink

BalloonDinosaur · 13/06/2019 07:20

My older brother (mid 40s) is a Martin, so I do like it, but somehow can't really imagine it for a baby...
I like Max, would've used it for DS but didn't like any of the longer versions.

pilates · 13/06/2019 06:33

Two very different names.
Prefer Maxwell, Martin is awful.

tiramisu1 · 13/06/2019 06:33

Max will soon start to fall out of fashion and feel 'dated'. There are so many Maxes under age 20!

Martin feels fresh and interesting and will be more memorable.

NerrSnerr · 13/06/2019 06:24

I prefer Martin. I do like Maximilian but there are so many little Max around.

Watersnail · 13/06/2019 05:01

Max is more predictable than Martin these days. A little Marty would be quirky these days.

notangelinajolie · 13/06/2019 03:14

Maximilian.
My boy name but ended up with 3 girls.

paperandfireworks · 13/06/2019 02:41

Max.

mmgirish · 13/06/2019 01:02

I haven't taught a Max that wasn't naughty.... just saying.

IVflytrap · 13/06/2019 00:44

Martin. I love it, it's an ancient name, literally a variation of a name for Mars, the Roman god of war, which is why it's funny to me that it has a dowdy, "of its time" reputation to so many.

Also, you get the nickname Marty from it, which is lovely.

I don't know any Maximilians, but Max is getting a bit overused, in my opinion.
