Current thoughts on Saskia?

Saskia is under serious consideration so I’ve been trying to do a bit of research on it. I’ve read all the mn threads on Saskia- the eastenders and big brother connections keeps coming up and general consensus was that they made the name appear ‘chavvy’ (I wasn’t aware of either association as have never watched either of the programmes). However some of these threads are up to 10 years old- do you think those associations still exist in 2019? Or do they lessen the further away we move?
Any and all thoughts on the name welcome please!
(Bonus q: what do you think about it as a sister name to Isadora?)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I like it. Very pretty and spiky!

Too rare to be "dated", I think.

I've only known one and she was awesome. I don't know either of the TV associations.

Cool with kind of a Scandi vibe almost? I like it.

I really love it but unfortunately dh doesn't so not on our list. I had no idea about bb association and I vaguely remember a saskia in eastenders when I was in primary school so can't see it being an association people think of now

Eleanor90 · 10/06/2019 10:47

I absolutely love it and had no idea about the Eastenders or BB connections. I think it’s utterly gorgeous and feisty and I like it a lot with Isadora too.

DivGirl do you live in the Netherlands? I'm surprised you know so many Saskia's!

Divgirl2 · 10/06/2019 10:29

Steve, Mary and Paul are all old names but I think we'd all agree they were dated by current standards. What I mean is everyone I know who is called Saskia is in their late 20s/early 30s so the likelihood is that the baby will share a name with their parents generation. Like if you're in your 30s and called Kevin or Tracey. Not quite old-school-cool yet.

I think names are changing a lot with people going for a much wider selection and there being more nationalities bringing in their own heritage etc. I don’t know anything about the associations you mention - to me Saskia is a name I don’t like very much but just for my taste - nothing particular.

Zoeputthatdown · 10/06/2019 10:24

I like it.
I didn't watch EE or BB so wouldn't let any associations put me off the name.

Sounds good. Smile

Hollowvictory · 10/06/2019 10:19

'dated' well its several hundred years old! Saskia Rembrandt was born in 1612! So yes 400year old name. Making it classic not dated.
😂🤣

Hollowvictory · 10/06/2019 10:18

It's a Dutch name (Rembrandts wife) and is timeless, beautiful, classic name. No idea about eastenders I don't watch it.

Divgirl2 · 10/06/2019 10:16

It's maybe a little dated but I quite like it, and very underused now. I wouldn't say the previous associations are still there (I've never watched EastEnders though so no idea what happened to the character.

AuntieStella · 10/06/2019 10:15

I think it's a lovely name,

I wouldn't have made connections to either BB (no longer on?) or EE - is it a current character?
