Current thoughts on Saskia?

Daisychain66 · 10/06/2019 10:10

Saskia is under serious consideration so I’ve been trying to do a bit of research on it. I’ve read all the mn threads on Saskia- the eastenders and big brother connections keeps coming up and general consensus was that they made the name appear ‘chavvy’ (I wasn’t aware of either association as have never watched either of the programmes). However some of these threads are up to 10 years old- do you think those associations still exist in 2019? Or do they lessen the further away we move?
Any and all thoughts on the name welcome please!
(Bonus q: what do you think about it as a sister name to Isadora?)

Neolara · 10/06/2019 16:13

Love it.

moonpiggle · 10/06/2019 16:10

I love Saskia! Its in my top 3 girls names.

Peachbubble · 10/06/2019 16:07

I like Saskia (and Sasha), not so keen on Hermione or Genevieve

Daisychain66 · 10/06/2019 14:46

Thanks all for your replies! Glad the associations aren’t a problem any more, seems to be a name that splits opinion though.
Constantly going back and forth between Saskia Hermione and Genevieve- have a new favourite every hour! Hmm

Christ, I do remember Saskia on BB but it was years ago now! I’d guess 14-15 years back so most people won’t remember that or make that connection.

Having said that, I’m not personally a fan.

FizzyGreenWater · 10/06/2019 14:05

Lovely

sheshootssheimplores · 10/06/2019 13:51

I like it. Unusual and still has a Russian spy vibe about it 🤭

TurquoiseAndPurple · 10/06/2019 13:50

One if my favorite names! I'm so upset that it clashes with my current dd's name as I don't think I can use it 😭

Astronica · 10/06/2019 13:39

I love Saskia, and agree with the comment that it's too rare to be dated.

Penelopecute · 10/06/2019 13:38

Lovely name! Agree it’s too unusual to be dated

RickOShay · 10/06/2019 13:36

Really like Saskia, also like Bianca Grin

DrDentyst · 10/06/2019 13:33

'on here saying no to a name'

DrDentyst · 10/06/2019 13:32

It was very nearly my 5 month old name but it just didn't suit her so we went with something else. Therefore I obviously think it's lovely. I remember the eastenders and big brother contestants but I don't see anything in here dating no to a name because if love island etc

MollyHuaCha · 10/06/2019 13:28

Beautiful name.

Ivy44 · 10/06/2019 13:13

I like it. I’ve only known one, a friend at Uni who was a lovely and intelligent person.

Not sure about the BB and EastEnders associations as I don’t watch them.

It’s always struck me as a classic name, I’d associate it more with SaskiaRembrandt than anything else.

monsieurmarius · 10/06/2019 13:12

I like it and don't think it's chavvy or dated at all

PugPupsMum · 10/06/2019 13:07

I love it, I’d use it myself if DH liked it but he doesn’t unfortunately

Quintella · 10/06/2019 12:15

Lovely name. Elegant and grown up. Saskia is a specialist in Christie’s Chinese Ceramics department. She wears a lot of Dries van Noten and enjoys a negroni.

Antonin · 10/06/2019 12:12

I love this name. Was never as popular as Tracey etc when it was more common so hasn’t dated in the same way.
It goes very well with Isadora as both names have a history of being less used in the UK. and are of the same length

PhossyJaw · 10/06/2019 12:11

Saskia Rembrandt is my main association. I couldn't take anyone who watches Eastenders or Big Brother remotely seriously. It's a lovely name.

Emilydickensonsdogs · 10/06/2019 12:05

Love the name. Only know one and she is a fabulous girl of 17.

Sessy19 · 10/06/2019 12:01

I was t aware of its Dutch heritage, it’s Scandi to me...(I’m Danish)

Sessy19 · 10/06/2019 12:01

Saskia is 100% awesome. And I hope to GOD it doesn’t become popular.

I don’t think it’s chavvy (what a nineties term!! 😂)
I certainly don’t think, as pp stares, that it’s used regularly enough to be ‘dated’.

My daughter will be named Saskia when she gets here, and that can’t come soon enough. I think it’s a perfect name.

And we must have similar tastes, because Isadora would also be on my list (along with Elke) if I was contemplating more than one babe....but I’m not. And I won’t give such lovely names to a dog, so I’ll just fanaticise...😊

forevercurious · 10/06/2019 12:01

I like it :)
