Current thoughts on Saskia?

Daisychain66 · 10/06/2019 10:10

Saskia is under serious consideration so I’ve been trying to do a bit of research on it. I’ve read all the mn threads on Saskia- the eastenders and big brother connections keeps coming up and general consensus was that they made the name appear ‘chavvy’ (I wasn’t aware of either association as have never watched either of the programmes). However some of these threads are up to 10 years old- do you think those associations still exist in 2019? Or do they lessen the further away we move?
Any and all thoughts on the name welcome please!
(Bonus q: what do you think about it as a sister name to Isadora?)

I like Saskia.

I LOVE this name, was on my list for dd. I think it's very pretty, timeless but still cool

Tillygetsit · 16/06/2019 22:43

Love this name. It sounds so swishy! Perfect with Isadora. Both really elegant.

beanaseireann · 16/06/2019 20:34

Love it.
There's s poster on here and her username is SaskiaRembrandtwasframed which is brilliant.

sweetsaltypopcorn · 11/06/2019 02:22

I like it. Also like Anouska, which has a similar vibe.

PCohle · 10/06/2019 21:55

Seems very Made in Chelsea nouveau riche.

TurquoiseAndPurple · 10/06/2019 21:41

There's nothing wrong with a bit of sass Grin

Owlbert · 10/06/2019 21:40

Love Saskia and like Genevieve but not so keen on Jenny which I assume people would shorten to.

Aozora13 · 10/06/2019 20:33

@Daisychain66 I love the name. She’s my second DD and I really struggled for ages to find a name that DH didn’t veto (I even appealed to Mumsnet for help!). People have been very positive but I think they generally are once the baby is actually here (at least to your face!). A few people have never heard the name though and I’ve had to spell it!

She’s got approx 1 million different nicknames, including my elder DD’s mispronunciations! But we still use Saskia as well. I have the odd moment of doubt that it’s a bit 90s but I still think it’s a great name and suits her.

MikeUniformMike · 10/06/2019 19:53

I think Saskia is lovely. Much nicer than than Hermione and Genevieve.
She'll get called Sass though.

Runmybathforme · 10/06/2019 19:48

It’s lovely, but will inevitably be shortened to ‘ Sass ‘.

mum2jakie · 10/06/2019 19:46

I think it's a beautiful sounding name. I can't remember any BB or EastEnders connections to the name and I'm over 40. Never met any in real life so it's certainly never been popular enough to be 'dated' unlike some names that become over saturated.

I think it's the loveliest out of your three choices.

Stravapalava · 10/06/2019 19:41

I really like Saskia and it was a serious contender for DC2. I've never met one IRL.

HeronLanyon · 10/06/2019 19:39

Really like Saskia. Do think it may be slightly old fashioned by the time your dd is an adult?

TurquoiseAndPurple · 10/06/2019 19:36

I always imagined the nn would be Sask/Saski if I ever had a Saskia.

Daisychain66 · 10/06/2019 19:22

@Aozora13 how have you found the name in reality? Are you happy with your choice and have people responded fairly well? Think it is the most consistent favourite for us....
Also do you use any nicknames or always use her full name?

I love it.

chamenanged · 10/06/2019 19:06

It makes me think of a very posh late twenties blonde who swears and smokes a lot and calls everyone 'darling'.

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 10/06/2019 18:57

I like it

Aozora13 · 10/06/2019 17:58

It’s my 7mo DD’s name, and our new neighbours’ little girl’s too Blush

SwimmerGirl40 · 10/06/2019 17:54

Saskia. Is a lovely name. As is Genevieve.

I used to like Hermione but now I think it would make you look like a Harry Potter fan (no bad thing).

Divinelyuninspired · 10/06/2019 17:49

I like it and have never known one.

CrocodileClips · 10/06/2019 17:47

I think it sounds posh (not necessarily a bad thing, but posh is my first reaction) and not dated at all.

justanswerthephone · 10/06/2019 17:47

I love it

FartnissEverbeans · 10/06/2019 17:40

Love it! No EE or BB associations for me. To me it seems kind of posh...
