Okay, we like:
Jack (my fave, DH likes but not 100%)

Theodore (nn Theo/Teddy) - we both like but I worry it's a bit common atm - I know I can't really say that considering jack is my fave!

Rupert - my DH absolutely loves it.. I'm not sure I can get past 'the bear'...

Thoughts? TIA

Jack feels like a Steve or Mike kind of name. There are so many that they'll need to add their surname to be identified.

MikeUniformMike · 07/06/2019 15:03

Theodore is awful, Theo is too popular.
Rupert - not sure
Jack - I know lots of them

sunnyshines · 07/06/2019 14:28

Rupert. Good solid name that's not overused.

Jack was THE number 1 name for a number of years so there are A LOT of Jacks out there already. Is it possibly already starting to fall out of fashion?

Theodore/Theo has also been becoming quite trendy more recently.

kayleighd · 07/06/2019 09:58

I called my little one Jack. Strong solid name with no need for abbreviations. We believe it to be a boys and a mans name so stands the test of time. Personally love it

Thanks everyone! I have no idea what we'll land on, but we have two months to decide!

Love Rupert and Jack

daisypond · 06/06/2019 13:18

Rupert is my favourite, though I like Theodore too. Jack is OK but I think it’s too casual.

lavenderblues · 06/06/2019 12:17

I know so many Jacks and Theos! Both fashionable names that will inevitably start to sound dated.

Rupert is a much more interesting and memorable name. I only know one (teenage) Rupert. Much more classic name that will stand the rest of time.

Fulltimemummy85 · 06/06/2019 12:10

I know thousands of Jacks and 1 Theo, much prefer Theodore or Theo xx

Pinkvoid · 06/06/2019 10:46

I like Rupert. My DF has a friend called Rupert and he’s really cool.

Not so keen on the others. Jack is plain and common. Theodore is v.popular atm and not my cup of tea.

tiramisu1 · 06/06/2019 08:45

Rupert is posh but not in a good way,

Doesn't that depend on the person? Confused

Watersnail · 06/06/2019 08:23

Jack was the no.1 boy's name for years. Rupert is posh but not in a good way, more an entitled, brash way. Rufus would be more quirky. Theodore is great, a classic. I only know of one Theo.

Lobsterquadrille2 · 06/06/2019 08:12

Definite Rupert. I do like Jack but there are so many of them. I only know one Rupert.

Icklepup · 06/06/2019 07:52

Jack or Rupert

My favourite is actually Theodore/Theo. I don’t know many at the moment — certainly nowhere near as many as I know Jacks!

Penny4Thoughts · 06/06/2019 07:05

I think they’re all lovely but I’ve never met a Rupert so that’s my favourite - really gorgeous strong name

Different generations have different fashions so it’s unsurprising relatives turn their noses up at your suggestions

notmygumdropbuttons · 06/06/2019 07:02

So it seems Jack and Rupert are the faves! It's mainly confirmed my concerns with Theodore being everywhere at the moment.

I'm surprised as the positive Rupert reaction! I think my issue is that when I've mentioned it to people in my family their response has been overwhelmingly negative... which is annoying, but my fault to have mentioned it!! I love the nickname Ru/Roo..

Maybe we need to see what he looks like when born. Although it could also be a gurl!!

As far as I know, Jack's a diminutive of John and I dislike it because every single main character on american tv seems to be called that. Jack Ryan, Jack O'Neil, John Shepard, John McClane... Etc etc. Boring.

That said, based on your first message, ut sounds like you and your dh have each your fav and sort of agree on a name you like less but at least both of you like. So it would probably make sense to pick Theo (or look for more names that you both like ?) and use Jack and Rupert as middle names.

Newtoallofthis2019 · 06/06/2019 06:29

I love Rupert - I know a Rupert and it often gets shortened to Ru which I love even more, jack and Theo are nice too but likely to be one of a few in his class when he goes to school - if that doesn’t bother you tho then no issues!!

Peachbubble · 06/06/2019 06:26

Jack or Rupert. I like Theo too, but it's very popular atm.

Jossina · 05/06/2019 23:20

Rupert is the pick.

Sophronia · 05/06/2019 23:16

Jack or Rupert. Definitely not Theodore.

Moongirl10 · 05/06/2019 23:14

Rupert definitely!

JaneGlorianaVillanueva · 05/06/2019 23:11

Jack and Theo are lovely. Teddy is nice too but I dont like Rupert sorry, it's way too posh for my taste
