Bombalurina

A baby name website has just suggested the name Bombalurina to me, based on my other choices which I didn't think were particularly strange.

A quick google tells me this was the name of one of the cats in CATS.

Is this a usable name?? I guess it could be shortened to Lurina, which is quite nice. When I first saw it I was a bit boggled but it's starting to sound more pleasant.

Seriously there is somebody called Lurina? That is far too close to urine for my liking

Well, the same could be said of Irina, Marina, Laurina...

Well there is a musical link between Timmy Mallett and Cats. It would seem that Andrew Lloyd Webber managed Timmy when he was in Bombalurina, probably hence the name. And Gary Barlow's missus was one of the other members.

Malyshek · 05/06/2019 12:26

Lol ! Yeah, French has gaps. I was actually shocked to discover that english doesn't ;)

Agree that Bombalurina has no explanation/justification. I speak four languages and know the basics of two more, and it sounds ridiculous in all of them !

diddlediddle · 05/06/2019 12:25

It's not a wind up! The site genuinely did suggest it to me, based on a normal name. I don't think it's that bad. I know someone called Lurina. And I actually like it more because of the Timmy Mallet connection, what a legend. The child could just repeatedly say things like "mallet's mallet is a word association game where you mustn't pause or hesitate..." I take the point about shouting Bomba though...

Also, I've always thought Cosette and Eponine were lovely names!

If anyone has used the Kinder name generator app, you can choose Pokemon names as an option. That brought about some interesting suggestions!

MrsMeSeeks · 05/06/2019 09:38

Well, at least we have a satisfactory explanation for the punctuation/space thing.

Less so for Bombalurina...

Penny4Thoughts · 05/06/2019 08:56

I had no idea French had gaps!

DonkeyHohtay · 05/06/2019 08:54

It's like that poster a while back who had created a site to inspire people with baby names and was asking for feedback - it was ridiculous. She'd taken normal names like Lorraine, Sandra, Susan or Michelle and mushed them together to suggest Lorandra, Sanchelle or Michaine.

NameChangeNugget · 05/06/2019 08:29

It’s a very popular name.

There were eight of them in my eldest’s reception class

EmpressLesbianInChair · 05/06/2019 08:27

Maybe the space person has English as an additional language, and in their first language you do use a space before terminal punctuation. Are there languages where that’s the case?
It would seem so. I'm French.

Thanks for explaining that, Malyshek. I didn’t know.

BonAccordSpur · 05/06/2019 08:25

Is that a wind up?Thought that was TimmyMallets alias for his 'hit' ItsyBitsyTinyWeeny..shes gonna love thatGrin

Walkamileinmyshoesbeforeujudge · 05/06/2019 08:21

Rumtumtugger is obviously a male porn star name!!

Malyshek · 05/06/2019 08:15

Without the space is correct though

Maybe in english. Not in my language and I could never get used to that being correct, even when I'm speaking in english.

SuckingDieselFella · 05/06/2019 01:42

Bomb, a sister for Ira and Isis.

Terrific name, OP. At least it's one that nobody will forget.

DeeCeeCherry · 05/06/2019 01:23

Will they call your DD 'Bombacla...'

oh never mind 👀😁

EdtheBear · 05/06/2019 00:59

Bombalurina - is that like a ballerina that bombed out the show?
As for the nn Lurina - surely that's just taking the piss!

It has to be a jokeGrin

SpeckofStardust · 05/06/2019 00:47

. Bombalurina - yes, it just rolls off the tongue, there won’t be 6 others in the class, it was in a famous musical, and, um, well, it’s got lots of vowels AND consonants, oh and it sounds a bit like Thumbelina which is another much neglected name if you ask me. Grin

Teaandcrisps · 05/06/2019 00:30

Bring back Mallet's mallet I say - used to love that yellow hammer game.

AlliKaneErikson · 05/06/2019 00:25

And meanwhile, I’m STILL humming Itsy Bitsy Teeny weeny...cheers for that!!

Just curious because it seems like an unusual error. I see a lot of idiosyncratic punctuation in my job but I haven’t come across it before.

bridgetreilly · 04/06/2019 23:07

Bombalurina nn Bomb?

Or should say, nn Bomb ?

TenThousandSpoons · 04/06/2019 22:54

Ridiculous baby name.
Aggravating punctuation spacing.
