Baby name issue?

Hi. My husband and I are struggling to agree on a baby name we both like. We narrowed it down to one,William. However I have 2 slight issues but not sure if I'm over thinking it.

  1. Love the nickname will but hate willy. Do Williams tend to get called Willy?
  1. Also as my surname is Dixon, am I reading too much into kids teasing and creating Willy Dixon with the surname also sounding a bit rude (if you get what I mean as not sure I can say it here haha).

Or am I thinking the worse of kids these days?

William and Dixon are fine separately but put them together and it's too penis-esque! Back to the drawing board 🙂

My William is Wills or Will or William. Never anything else. Love the name.

Hope his name is never read out surname first.

Nobody has ever called mine Willie. Wills, William, other nicknames coming from an amalgamation of first name and middle name when he was little but never Willie. He's at secondary school now and his school friends seem to have named him Willum which has stuck.

I don’t think I would use William, due to your sirname. I think teens will also make the link.

I like William. It is a name I would have considered if I had had a boy (I didn't, I had three girls).

Shortened version if you want on could be Will, Wills or perhaps Billy?

Quintilla.......Grin that made me laugh!

willy dicks.

Yeh I think a bunch of 13 year olds are going to reach that quite quickly whether you call him billy or liam.

I like Billy better than Willy.

Quintella · 04/06/2019 20:51

And Williams rarely get called Willie these days. Always Will in my experience.

Quintella · 04/06/2019 20:50

There may be one or two people in his school days who pick up on 'HA HA WILLIE DICK' but I can't imagine it will be a widespread issue! Not like calling him Chris Peacock.

Disfordarkchocolate · 04/06/2019 20:49

Will is the most common shortening of William. My daughter would have been Will(iam) Henry if we'd had a boy. Lovely name.

  1. Not if you call him Will or Billy or Liam
  2. See 1.
