Is Sienna going to date?

We love the name Sienna but worried it will date? Should we be worried it's too popular as well? Or just not care?

Our/my Wink shortlist of names so far;
Sienna
Anastasia
Liberty (my husband doesn't like it)
India
Lucia

Please help! Any other suggestions would be great.

I have a Sienna. I didn’t realise it was as popular as it seems to be! Although it isn’t top 20 from what I can see and my other favoured names were Isla and Mia which are much more popular.

At the end of the day it’s a pretty name and you like it so who cares? Picking a more unusual name you like less seems silly.

TheInvisibleMrsCrane · 29/05/2019 22:47

Lucia and Anastasia are both gorgeous names that I don’t think will date. The others will probably date, if they haven’t already.

CoastalWave · 29/05/2019 22:44

The Siena's I know are all about 10/11. I think it's a lovely name.

tresbe · 29/05/2019 22:43

tiramisu1** what are some examples?

BeckyAnnLeeman · 29/05/2019 22:40

I mean, yeah it probably will but so what! I'm struggling to think of a girls' name that doesn't date.

ReindeerTails · 29/05/2019 22:37

I think it will date, yes. I think it reached a popularity due to Sienna Miller in the mid-noughties and it's probably reached its peak of popularity. Although pretty, I do think it is/was "of the moment" in particular.

Lucia would be my fave but then you'll have the confusion over whether it's pronounced "LOOSEEA" or LOOCHEEA". Same TBH with Anastasia - is it "ANNA-STAY-SEEAH" or ANNA-STARS-EEAH? Or even ANNASTAY/R-SHHEAH"? Too many variables!

So that probably leaves India Smile

Pinkflowersx · 29/05/2019 22:30

I'm pleased the feedback has been quite positive. No one has said they hate the name.

It's quite redolent of the boho Primrose Hill set in the early 00s, but I quite like it, and being associated with Sienna Miller can't be such a bad thing. She's stunning!

Bluebellwoodz · 29/05/2019 20:21

tiramisu1 Any suggestions? I am always confused when people talk about timeless classics Confused

tiramisu1 · 29/05/2019 13:56

I think most people would prefer not to be one of the thousands 40+ year old Steves or Sharons for example. There are so many lovely underused names to choose from! Such fashionable names inevitably fall out of fashion.

Personally I prefer more timeless classics, names that are well outside the top 100.

lucymegan · 29/05/2019 13:55

I don't think it's dated. My neighbours just named her baby sienna. It's a really pretty name I think.
Savannah was on our list too but my cousin named her baby it before mine was born 🙄 I don't think it's too much at all. Naming babies is hard. We let out teenagers name their baby sister (Alana) because we couldn't make a decision. Her name wasn't even on the list the kids came up with it lol. Tbf we can't even make a decision on a takeaway we was never going to agree on a name and stick to it lol x

Pinkflowersx · 29/05/2019 13:36

Love Savannah but is it too much?

Is Sienna really already dated?

lucymegan · 29/05/2019 12:22

I like sienna we had it on our list for dd4 we went with Scarlett in the end. All names date eventually.i wouldn't be bothered about that.
I
What about
Elenor
Elaina
Genevieve
Savannah
Mabel

TatianaLarina · 29/05/2019 11:55

It’s already dated.

I like Anastasia. Serena is a good suggestion - it’s more classic.

Pinkflowersx · 29/05/2019 10:01

YahBasic we definitely have the same taste in names.

Bit of a mixed bag about Sienna but I just adore the name and thinking so what....I just feel such a responsibility though for not giving a name that will be so 2019

It's nice to have a name that doesn't sound dreadfully dated, as an adult.

It just is. It always sounds refreshing when you come across someone, and they don't have a standard issue name from their decade of birth.

The popular names from previous generations always sound tired and dull to modern ears, as lovely as they would've sounded then.

The same will apply to today's names.

I say this as someone who was given a dreadfully dated name in the 70s, but which is now top 10. I didn't like it growing up, but I now love not being another Karen /Jennifer / Michelle / Nicola / et al...

Disappearedtothe80s · 29/05/2019 03:02

All three of my children that will date them to when they were born (late 90s/early 2000s).

They were nice names at the time, still are but just gone out of fashion as new nicer names have came along.

I was reluctant to have names will date, but its all exH and I could agree on, and I do love names even if they are from a particular era.

Proseccofuelled · 29/05/2019 00:49

Why do you mind? If you meet a 70 year old Barbara you don’t think “wow your name is past it” ? It’s not you - lots of people on here seem very concerned about it & I just don’t really understand it.

Chocmallows · 29/05/2019 00:48

Most names will unless classics?

My DD's name will date, but I still love the name. I think Sienna will one day be like Ruby/Connie, have dropped out of fashion then come back in.

bridgetreilly · 29/05/2019 00:31

Yes.

Kokeshi123 · 29/05/2019 00:22

names.darkgreener.com/#sienna

Maybe yes, somewhat. But it's a nice name.

YahBasic · 28/05/2019 23:07

Liberty and India/Indie are on my list.

I also love Halle, Noa, Talitha

MummyBear2352 · 28/05/2019 22:42

Love the name Sienna, my niece is Sienna-Rose 😊

Sophronia · 28/05/2019 22:41

I do think it will date. Lucia is nice from your list.

NewAccount270219 · 28/05/2019 22:34

I think Sienna is already dated - to me it's very mid-2000s, ie a decade ago - but maybe that makes it better than if it was absolutely the name of 2019?
