Assuming we have a girl.

Juniper. My choice. Just fell in love with this recently. It's earthy, slightly different, and I could have June, Junie or Juno as nicknames, all of which I love. DH is Indian and Juni is an Indian name which I like as it's sort of tying together our cultures. June is a very special name for us too, and if we don't go with this name we had planned to use it for a middle name. Also I read about Saint Juniper and the story is lovely, which has made me like it even more!

Genevieve - DHs favourite. He just likes the sound. I do too. But I HATE the name Jenny and I'm not blown away by any other nicknames. My favourites would be Eve and Vivi.

We live abroad so could choose the nicknames here, but I'm worried that if we do return to the UK she might get lumbered with Jenny.

Opinions please!

Juniper gets my vote.

I know 3 Genevieve’s all called Evie. I think The House of Elliot (was that it’s name?) tv series about a fashion house in the early 1900’s gave it a boost.

BellMcEnd · 04/06/2019 00:03

Love Juniper. Great name!

Fedoratheexploreer · 03/06/2019 23:56

I would go for Juniper, it seems obvious that this is your favourite and has the most meaning and better nickname options.

FizzyGreenWater · 03/06/2019 23:52

Juniper definitely.

Genevieve is a lovely sound BUT SHE WON'T EVER GET CALLED IT - by the time she is ten you will most probably have a Jen or a Jenny.

I love Vivie as a nn, but it might stick and it might not.

I would go for Juniper.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 03/06/2019 13:02

I think from your post is obvious that you prefer Juniper so I think you should go with it. It’s a lovely name. I know one aged 7/8 she is known as Juni but all the nicknames are lovely.

Littlechocola · 03/06/2019 13:00

I love both!
Genevieve Juniper?

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 03/06/2019 12:56

Juniper

Malyshek · 28/05/2019 18:55

It's a bit funny because Juni and Jenny sound very similar. Odd that you like one and dislike the other (though I totally understand, I hate names spelt a certain way and I can love the same name with a slightly différent spelling !)

Personally I'd vote for Juniper, in part because Geneviève was my grzndmother's name and to me it's an old lady's name (I'm french). Juniper sounds more modern and original, and I like Juno as a nickname.

I think though that the one you need to convince is your partner !

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 28/05/2019 18:50

I love both names🤷🏻‍♀️ No help lol

Estellastar · 28/05/2019 18:35

Genevieve. Juniper is a bit hippy-esque for me personally

Icklepup · 28/05/2019 17:06

Juniper Smile

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 28/05/2019 12:01

Thank you for the replies! I'm really pleased to see so many positive responses for Juniper! As a couple of you have pointed out, yes, I think my heart is pretty set on this if I'm honest with myself, although no doubt I'll continue to spiral between the two until I meet her (assuming she is a her!)

And yes I love Ginny Weasley and anything HP related so that's another huge plus Grin

BlueWonder · 28/05/2019 09:19

Ginevra is also the full name of Ginny Weasley from HP so any of the Juniper related names will have a cool namesakeSmile

YouBumder · 28/05/2019 09:07

Both are awful sorry

MerryMarigold · 28/05/2019 09:05

Also don't think you could do Genevieve June as a name, so if you want June in there, call her June or Juniper. Or she may just be a George/ Jude anyway!

BlueWonder · 28/05/2019 08:33

Your post reminded me of a programme about Leonardo da Vinci the other day. This painting was mentioned as having juniper in the background as a play on the subject''s name - Ginevra:
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ginevra_de%27_Benci
If you stick with Juniper it is a nice thing to show your dd.when she's older. Or, as it seem's to be the Jun part of Juniper that you love (all the nn's), could you consider Junevra or Junivera? I"m not normally a fan of made up names but that still sounds classic, has the v sound your DH likes, could use all your nn''s, and has a great provenance!

rainbowstardrops · 28/05/2019 08:27

I love Genevieve nn Ginny.
I'm usually a big fan of more unusual names but I'm not really feeling Juniper. I quite like Juni though.

LarkDescending · 28/05/2019 08:19

Neither is my cup of tea, sorry - but I do like June, and think it would travel well, and would lend itself to Juni(e) as a nickname which works in both your cultures.

In any event I think you should probably scrap Genevieve because it doesn’t sound as though you like it enough.

What’s the story of St Juniper which you like? Is it about cutting off the feet of a live pig?

SavageBeauty73 · 28/05/2019 07:59

I know two Genevieve's.

One is called Gen. One is called Viva.

BrutusMcDogface · 28/05/2019 07:56

*do, not so!

BrutusMcDogface · 28/05/2019 07:56

Juniper for sure!

I so know a Genevieve who is pronounced the french way and it sounds so much better than the English way, ie “zhon- viEHv” instead of “jenne-veev”. Would be a pain explaining to people all the time, though.

Teddybearhunter · 28/05/2019 07:53

Oops sorry @merrymarigold !

Teddybearhunter · 28/05/2019 07:52

Vivienne has a similar vibe & nicknames well to Vivi - is that one you’ve considered?

Teddybearhunter · 28/05/2019 07:51

Juniper you write with a long list of positives & Genevieve you write with negatives....

I feel like your heart has decided!

BlueMerchant · 28/05/2019 07:35

Genevieve nn Eve is lovely.
I don't like Juniper.
