Reggie, Archie or Alfie?

So my DS is called Brodie and I will be expecting DS2 in September and struggling on names for him, me and my partner really like Reggie, Archie and Alfie but I'm unsure for different reasons with each of them e.g
Reggie: kray twin association and the fact it sounds like wedgie,
Archie: I'm worried it will be too popular with Harry and Meghan calling there baby Archie but was my second choice when naming Brodie.
Alfie: again worried it's too popular or too cutesy?
Your opinions would be great thanks for reading :)

I thoroughly dislike them all. Sorry, OP.

tiramisu1 · 28/05/2019 17:16

I really don't like Archibald/Archie or Reginald/Reggie. Alfred is ok but I hate Alfie.

Brodie is a great name and I feel that Caleb or Quinn would be a great sibling name.

floraloctopus · 28/05/2019 17:11

Archie is going to get very popular very quickly, Reggie is horrible and Alfie has been over-used.
Sorry OP.

Icklepup · 28/05/2019 17:08

Reggie is lovely! Smile

Purplelavenders · 28/05/2019 16:16

I only know Alfies and Archies aged 12 and under. Very 2000s!

twattymctwatterson · 28/05/2019 15:40

Archie definitely isn't associated with one generation where I'm from. In fact it's an "old man" name having a revival.

Sarcelle · 28/05/2019 15:26

Struan

Purplelavenders · 28/05/2019 15:24

I would definitely not have another-ie name with Brodie.

BlehBleh · 28/05/2019 15:21

I'm biased and would go for Reggie. My son is Reginald nickname Reggie & yes, we use both!

I would avoid Archie for the reason you have stated.

What about Brodie &...

Sonny? Ronnie? Freddie? Vinny? Rory? Frankie? Jesse?

Shadow1234 · 28/05/2019 14:48

I love the names Alfie and Archie.
Also like Ronnie, as suggested up-thread
Not keen on Reggie

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 28/05/2019 14:02

Lachlan, Douglas or Caleb would be nice with Brodie...

Pinkvoid · 28/05/2019 14:02

Honestly, none of them. I dislike diminutives used as first names. Archie and Alfie have always been popular but I suspect Archie will now have a spike.

redbedheadd · 28/05/2019 13:34

Brutal posters 🙈 I have a 4 month Alfie and I haven't met another one and everyone says it's lovely for my DS, we get complimented on it a lot!

Proseccofuelled · 28/05/2019 13:30

@purplelavenders staggering isn’t it. I love all stats though so I’m unusually interested in this sort of thing.
I actually don’t mind dated names as long as dated to the right generation - but I know lots of Mumsnetters really try to avoid ‘faddy’ names.

Some of the classics have done incredibly well for 100 years - but they can also suddenly fall out of favour. Agnes was a top name for over 100 years !

I think Logan goes well with Brodie.

Alfie/Archie seem to be getting more & more popular lately.

NeverSayFreelance · 28/05/2019 12:38

I wouldn't associate Reggie with the Kray twin at all - actually my first thought was Reggie Yates that does the charts 😂

Alfie I always think is a bit cutesy and suits toddlers but not adults. Also a dog name.

Archie I like, mainly because of Archie Kennedy from Hornblower (could always name your child Horatio Grin). I wouldn't think too much of the Harry/Meghan connection, once he's a few years old nobody will even remember.

Toddlerteaplease · 28/05/2019 12:30

All of them awful!

Purplelavenders · 28/05/2019 12:24

In fact, it looks like they've peaked already.

Purplelavenders · 28/05/2019 12:23

Wow, those names (Alfie, Archie) literally came out of nowhere and shot up! They're bound to fall out of fashion soon...

Teddybearhunter · 28/05/2019 11:57

Do you like Rory? I love that name
Reggie is an awesome nickname for Gregory - do you like that? It feels most similar to Brodie in style whereas Alfie & Archie’s are everywhere.

holdupwaitamin · 28/05/2019 11:54

Ronnie
Rory

Proseccofuelled · 28/05/2019 11:52

It’s the reason names like these sound so dated to us..... again you might not care - the sharper the spike up the more quickly the name becomes unfashionable

Reggie, Archie or Alfie?
Proseccofuelled · 28/05/2019 11:50

Also these are names that will be dated very quickly - a bit like how the names Sharon or Colin sounds to us - very heavily associated with one generation & as a result become quickly & deeply unfashionable to the next. This isn’t actually something I particularly care about but it’s worth deciding if you care as lots of people on here do seem to mind.

This picture shows you the use of those names over the past 100 years.....

I don’t really like giving nicknames as real names. That said I felt really bad for Harry & Meghan getting so much abuse for picking a ‘chav’ name. Perhaps they have started to break the class divide on this? Lots of countries don’t have the same class obsession with names that the U.K. does - I hope so as it’s quite unfair on the children who get judged / treated differently as a result.

Anyway I don’t hate them but I wouldn’t be able to use a name like that as I’d be concerned about the stereotypes. Do you like any of the full names ie Alfred?

taylorlynn · 28/05/2019 10:36

I like Alfie & Archie
