Hi there,

Looking for some suggestions for Giselle's sister! My husband and I are struggling to agree on any names. I like Annalise, Genevieve and Rosalie. He likes Juliette, Sylvie and Violet.

I would love it if you wonderful people could suggest some names in the same vein as the ones above.

Thank you!

P.S. No names that end with -elle please! People always mix up mine and my daughters names. We don't need another one in the mix lol

Ah that’s a shame @BlehBleh but totally fair enough!

BlehBleh · 27/05/2019 11:35

@Isth Vivienne seems to be a popular suggestion. It would be too weird for my dad though as his ex was called Vivienne. Things ended really badly with them too.

I love the way they pronounce Florence in death in paradise!

Isth · 27/05/2019 11:06

Rosalie is my favourite from your list, but I also think Vivienne would go well

veeboo · 27/05/2019 11:04

@blehbleh it's a lovely name but I would never get away with it. Verity is also a great choice with a personal connection for me 😉.
A French colleague had a daughter Anouk which I think is easy to pronounce in the UK.

I don't know why and it has no French association but Astrid popped into my bead as a cool sibling name to Giselle!

FizzyGreenWater · 27/05/2019 10:09

From your list, I do like Genevieve a lot (esp shortened to Vivie) but think overall Sylvie is the best.

Other options I would suggest:

Melissa
Vivienne
Anna

Modestandatinybitsexy · 27/05/2019 10:03

I immediately thought Fleur, I think it sounds lovely.

Other suggestions are: Odette, Matilde, Francesca or Freya

BlehBleh · 27/05/2019 09:45

@StCharlotte I have a cousin called Verity otherwise I would be open to it.

My friend Giselle's sister is called Brionie. Or Bryony. Or Briony. Can't remember the spelling!

How about Verity?

Purplehammer · 27/05/2019 09:33

Ghislaine

coffeeandbiscuittime · 27/05/2019 09:25

As I looked at the title of the thread I thought of Rosalie, then I noted you have that as an option.
Lovely names.

cece · 27/05/2019 08:54

Cleo
Althea
Verity
Anna

BlehBleh · 27/05/2019 08:51

@veeboo Marguerite is actually a guilty pleasure of mine but I know my husband would hate it lol

No, I'm in England but my mums side of the family are French speaking, hence the strong french influence in my choices.

I quite like Anaïs but my husband would never be able to wrap his head around how french it is lol.

See, I don't mind either pronunciation of Genevieve. I'd be happy for English family to pronounce it the English way and family abroad the French.

Margherite
Or another vote for Vivienne

Teddybearhunter · 27/05/2019 08:37

Sylvie & Juliet are my favourites from your list
Maybe Clara or Bernadette ?

TatianaLarina · 27/05/2019 08:33

Are you in France OP?

Like the French pronunciation of Geneviève but really dislike the English pronunciation.

I think Rosalie goes best with Giselle from your options in the OP.

Other suggestions:

Manon
Maëlys
Anaïs

Romilly
Phoebe
Beatrice

Birdie6 · 27/05/2019 08:30

Emily popped into my head when I read your question.

BlehBleh · 27/05/2019 08:24

@Malyshek I'd rather use a different name than a derivative as it would be like settling IYKWIM.

youarenotkiddingme · 27/05/2019 08:15

Darcy
Margot

Ballet names just came into my head but I actually like the names too!

BlehBleh · 27/05/2019 08:15

@indigo13 I've looked at French naming lists through the decades for inspiration as Giselle is of a certain time.

Someone's suggested Clementine before but the pronunciation issues bother me.
