Iris as a baby name

Hi I love the name Iris and it has a special family meaning.... I am pregnant with my
3rd daughter, and I’m thinking of calling her Iris. I’m stuck on a middle name though.

It is Iris-Olivia or Iris Indie-Rea at the moment. Both go with our surname. Please let me know your thoughts I haven’t got long to go....

ooh what a lovely name, I love the name Iris!
I prefer Iris Olivia, sounds great x

Saltnpepperr · 29/05/2019 18:43

Iris is so nice. Iris Olivia is lovely but no hyphen. Love Iris Vivienne that someone else said

ProudmummytoMA · 26/05/2019 19:24

I love Iris Olivia, without the hyphen.

My friends gave their daughter a hyphenated name for the same reason as your husband wants one, it lasted 3 days before everyone, including them, only used the first of the 2 names.

filka · 26/05/2019 17:27

My mother was Iris Vivienne, beautiful names. Can't really shorten Iris and Viv would be pretty good.

TatianaLarina · 26/05/2019 17:18

Iris Olivia, no hyphen

Soytoi · 26/05/2019 14:44

Please don’t hyphenate! She will be judged for it and you will too unfortunately!
Why does your DH want to shorten the name? What’s wrong with just Iris? IMO if you want so badly a name you can shorten, maybe it’s not the name for you if you don’t want to use it in it’s full form before the baby is even here

mishgs · 26/05/2019 14:21

Iris Olivia is gorgeous. Rissy for a nn is nice Smile

Sophronia · 26/05/2019 14:16

Iris can be nicknamed Irie “eye-ree” or Rissie.

Sophronia · 26/05/2019 14:15

Iris Olivia is nice. I know an Iris Matilda.

Definitely don’t hyphenate any of the names.

daisypond · 26/05/2019 14:08

Iris means rainbow. You could maybe call her that for a family name - it’s longer admittedly but is rather sweet.

DontCallMeShitley · 26/05/2019 14:00

Keep the flower theme, if you want something unusual:
Iris Briar
Iris Violet
Iris May

DontCallMeShitley · 26/05/2019 13:37

Iris - changed to 'Rissy' in our family.

daisypond · 26/05/2019 13:27

Iris is lovely and goes fine with Olivia. Indie and Rea are not nice, though. Don’t hyphenate. Iris doesn’t shorten easily - I see that as a bonus though.

kenandbarbie · 26/05/2019 13:24

Iris Olivia not the other option

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 26/05/2019 13:20

Also should add, Rea really reminds me of diarrea (I know I spelt that wrong!)

Iris is gorgeous but shortening it to Irry is made - that just sounds dreadful. Why shorten a beautiful, 4 letter, 2 syllable name and make it go from beautiful made-up and weird sounding?

Pinkvoid · 26/05/2019 13:17

Iris is great. I wouldn’t hyphenate it at all but Iris is definitely the stronger name of the two.

Proseccofuelled · 26/05/2019 12:34

I met an Iris who’s nickname was Rissa

bridgetreilly · 26/05/2019 12:34

Hyphenated middle names is utterly pointless.

Proseccofuelled · 26/05/2019 12:29

Really sorry but hyphenating names has a very strong class association - unemployed etc. I’m not saying don’t do it, just be aware that’s how it looks.

Sexnotgender · 26/05/2019 11:41

Olivia-Rea is dreadful.

Whatareyoutalkingabout · 26/05/2019 11:39

Iris Olivia is lovely! But definitely no hyphen - to many people hyphens cheapen a name (rightly or wrongly) but without a hyphen it sounds classy and lovely

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 26/05/2019 11:29

Beautiful name, I'd go with Olivia as a middle name, no hyphen

Iris is lovely but please don’t hyphenate, it’s awful and chavvy. If he wants to be able to shorten it to Iris, just call her Iris! No need to shoehorn a nickname in. Or go for Irry or Issy for short or something.

1Willow23 · 26/05/2019 11:23

OH wants to hyphenate it as he wants a name he can shorten, and I don’t think Iris can be shortened. Any thoughts? ....
