Beer-triss (born and bred Yorkshire woman)

DuchessSybilVimes · 25/05/2019 21:51

Beer-triss or Bee-ah-triss. South East originally but Yorkshire for the past 15 years so the accent is getting muddled!

TurquoiseAndPurple · 25/05/2019 21:51

Bee-ah-triss, NW.

Stravapalava · 25/05/2019 21:50

Beer triss - east midlands but I'm from west midlands but my dad is well posh.

99bb · 25/05/2019 21:50

We have a Beatrice.

We and most people say “Beer-triss”

A handful (which we were expecting) do a slightly elongated “Bee-a-triss” (slightly softer than I can make it sound spelling it out) which we still think is lovely.

My in-laws, and I have never heard anyone else do this, say it like two words with a momentary pause in between “Bee.Truss” drives us both mad 😂

Still 100% glad we chose her name.

Bey-a-triss - Manchester

anothernotherone · 25/05/2019 21:48

Bee ah tris, though I suppose it's a fine line between that and beer- tris.

Bea-triss sounds like a shire horse.

Not sure where I'm from, my parents were rather nomadic when I was young, spent most but not all of my childhood in various parts of England.

Tavannach · 25/05/2019 21:47

Bee a triss
Scottish, in London.
Italian friends pronounce it Bee a tree chay, which I prefer, but it sounds a bit poncy if you're not Italian.

MuchTooTired · 25/05/2019 21:47

Beertriss also south east

Luaa · 25/05/2019 21:46

I pronounce it the same as Beatrix. Not sure why. South West.

Scotstar · 25/05/2019 21:46

mistermagpie · 25/05/2019 21:44

Bee-er-triss, so slightly different to you op. I'm from the north of England.

tequilamockingbiird · 25/05/2019 21:44

Bea-triss south west

CremeEggThief · 25/05/2019 21:43

Doilooklikeatourist · 25/05/2019 21:43

Bee a triss

RaffertyFair · 25/05/2019 21:43

Sorry forgot to say south east.

Have just seen beet-riss as an alternative. Well I never Smile

PavlovaFaith · 25/05/2019 21:42

We're North Yorkshire, Harrogate area.

PavlovaFaith · 25/05/2019 21:42

My daughter is Beatrice and it's beer-triss. My Chilean neighbour calls her bay-ah-triz and my Portuguese colleague calls her Beer-trish.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 25/05/2019 21:42

Same as you, SE. However, an EX BFs mum, from East London, was called Beatrice and she pronounced it Bee-triss.

Smolo · 25/05/2019 21:42

Beer triss - North West. How else would you pronounce it?

KatherineJaneway · 25/05/2019 21:42

Knitclubchatter · 25/05/2019 21:41

floraloctopus · 25/05/2019 21:41

The 'ea' is just an e when I say it, I don't say the r either.

RaffertyFair · 25/05/2019 21:41

I've never heard anyone say anything other than beer-triss
