Beer-triss. Non rhotic

I know the r thing annoys those with rhotic accents but I’m not sure how else to spell it phonetically. It’s not exactly bih-triss but it’s not bee-a-triss either. It just sounds exactly like beer in my accent. I don’t pronounce beer like “bee-ah”.

Starrynights86 · 26/05/2019 19:17

Bee-a-triss.

lavtriesagain · 26/05/2019 19:12

Be-a-triss. But the a is said quite quickly. I’m from East of England

BendydickCuminsnatch · 26/05/2019 19:11

Bee-ah-triss.

VerbenaGirl · 26/05/2019 19:09

Beer-triss- edge of East Anglia, heading towards Essex, but from Suffolk.

RaffertyFair · 26/05/2019 19:06

We say Bea-ah-triss for our Bea (as in pea).

Never heard it pronounced Beer-triss.

The thing is Snipples that many people pronounce "beer" as bee-a, so for them bee-ah-triss and beer-triss would be pretty much the same when spoken.

Snipples · 26/05/2019 18:54

Bee - uh - triss. 3 syllables, stress on Bee. South-East born.

CitadelsofScience · 26/05/2019 17:31

Bee ah triss, south east and it's a family name.

kaytee87 · 26/05/2019 17:30

@SoupDragon I understand the accent difference but surely you know there's not meant to be an R sound there? I'm genuinely not trying to be goady. I just never understand why people type an R in on these threads.

SoupDragon · 26/05/2019 17:28

Beer-trice SE England

I'm wondering if many of those pronouncing it beer-triss are using the same invisible "r" as is often found in their bath?

Or maybe, like a large proportion of the population of the UK, they have a non-rhotic accent. 🙄

RedSheep73 · 26/05/2019 17:22
