Cecilia - more elegant and sophisticated.

Cecily is a bit twee.

Penny4Thoughts · 08/06/2019 08:27

Cecilia I think

mintich · 03/06/2019 18:47

I like Cecilia but prefer Cecile over the two that and Cecily

sugarcubed · 03/06/2019 18:42

Cecilia is lovely

RuthW · 03/06/2019 18:40

Like both, but have the song in my head. My nan was nicknamed Cis, which I love. Her name was Elizabeth. I love Cordelia which is similar.

Enko · 03/06/2019 15:29

I would go with just Celia personally.

However I agree the Simon and Garfunkel song will be mentioned over and over. So As much as I adore Cecilia and prefer it to Cecily I got to give Cecily the vote of those 2 but I would use Celia is sooo pretty

MotherofaCat · 03/06/2019 14:46

I love Cecilia with the nickname Cece

LegoPiecesEverywhere · 03/06/2019 12:55

Cecilia

Hobbesmanc · 29/05/2019 16:49

I love these names- Cecilia, Celia, Cecily, Celeste. Also Delia and Della. I like the diminutive Cissy too.

username1724 · 28/05/2019 00:18

My dd mn is Cecily, it was exs choice but its really grown on me. Pretty and classic. Cecilia is pretty too but I agree it's very frilly. Neither are bad names though! Also like Celia

Malyshek · 26/05/2019 22:19

Cicely just looks like a typo to me, sorry.

Cecilia sounds better to me (I like how it flows better).

I'd suggest a compromise and to call her Cecil but apparently that's a boy's name in english ? (my cousin's name is Cécile and she's a girl)

Or use the irish version (Sheila)

DianaBlythe- I don't get why you using the name means your friend couldn't. If you were closely related maybe, but as she's just a friend... I mean, she's assuming that she'll have a daughter, that when she does you'll still be and stay in touch, and even if both your daughters were called the same name, so what ?

workshyfop · 26/05/2019 22:00

Cecily. Cecilia more frilly and brittle.

bitchfromhell · 25/05/2019 18:32

Cecile?

Dandelion1993 · 25/05/2019 18:10

@Smoliver thanks. We don't really shorten it. The odd occasion we have she's been called ceecee

OhMyDarling · 25/05/2019 18:07

Cecily... elegant and she won’t get people sing that god awful song that she will get if you call her cecilia.

Whoops75 · 25/05/2019 18:05

Cecilia

CalamityJess · 25/05/2019 18:02

I vote Cecily. Love it!

shartsi · 25/05/2019 17:49

How about just Celia. I know 2

OwlBeThere · 25/05/2019 17:43

I’ve just said both names so many times they don’t seem like real words anymore Grin
I think I prefer Cecily. But I like both.

MarieToulouseBerlioz · 25/05/2019 17:33

Cecilia I think!

Landfilly · 25/05/2019 17:24

My grandmother was Cecelia. Known as Cissy

Cecily is lovely but runs the risk of nickname Silly

woodcutbirds · 25/05/2019 17:23

Cecilia.
I like Cecily except the 'silly' sound, which I think is more likely to bug her in primary school than the song.

DianaBlythe · 25/05/2019 17:22

Celia is a lovely shortening. Really cute for a little girl but also lovely on a woman. Cece is lovely too.

Cicely makes me think of Cicely Mary Barker who wrote/drew the flower fairies which I loved as a child!

Two really nice options!

I really wanted Celia for myself. Cicely doesn’t sound right with our surname.

Problems though:
A) DH doesn’t like it
B) A good friend from uni asked unannounced when I was in early pregnancy if I could not use it as she wanted it in case she ever has a daughter. It was her nan’s name so I do get that but did think it a bit of a cheeky request.

Luckily I have problem A otherwise I’d be more in a quandary/put out by problem B.

So go for it for me!

Sophronia · 25/05/2019 17:22

Cecilia

OKBobble · 25/05/2019 17:17

Cecily gets my vote.

I know a 17 year old one. Hers gets shortened to Ces
