India or Claudia?

Title is pretty much self explanatory- we're having a little girl at the end of September and there's only ever been two contenders for a girl's name. We both like both names completely equally and can't pick between them.

So which do you prefer? I'm worried about it being trendy but India seems a bit cooler...and I'm about as edgy as a beach ball so she'll need all the help she can get in that arena.

Her last name will be double barrelled, so whilst I love Claudia it might be a bit telegraph birth announcement-y. Middle name will be Elizabeth.

NC to say my name is Claudia, I loved it as a child. I was happy to be the only one. It's different enough that I never met another Claudia until I was 18! But not so different that it sounds made up or stands out too much.
And now I'm an adult I still love my name, people compliment me on it often and I still appreciate that it's not too common.

Thanks everyone! HerRoyalNotness I LOVE Indira, but DH has previously vetoed on the basis that it will be a bit 'out there' and exotic for NI....I could still be convinced though.

Interesting that so many people think it's a no-no using a place name unless there's a particular significance. We view India in the same way as Florence, a name in its own right. But thanks to those posters as if we did go for it it's good to be aware of the not-insignificant potential for those questions or comments.

I was of a "choose once she's here"-mind, but DSis has taken to referring to the baby as Clindia. If we still can't decide it may actually become a contender (I'm joking)

India without a doubt. I dislike the unclear pronunciation of Claudia; both bad, either CLAWdia or Cloudier. Nn Claw or Cloud-not nice!

I have a Claudia but i did also like India, however DH did not. Neither of us have been to India or have connections to the country so he wasn't keen.

I just think Claudia is a gorgeous name, but i appreciate i am biased. I think there is one other in her school and that's it, so popularity wise it is not common. I think some are put off the meaning of the name, but personally i don't care as i don't honestly think other people do either.

I prefer Claudia, although India is still a good choice, but as far as which one goes best with middle name and double barrelled surname, there's no difference. I would as pp said, wait until she arrives, and expect it will come naturally.

Claudia is lovely. There have been a spate of Indias recently so not as edgy as you would wish.

Claudia for me. Timeless and classic while India seems a different style of name, more trendy and hippyish.

I have a Claudia. Still love it.

We had a choice of two too op. Looked at her and thought "she looks like a Claudia". Maybe you could choose when you see her? Smile

Claudia is lovely. I'm not fond of children named after places. It's a bit naff imo. Each to their own though.

Claudia Elizabeth is a beautiful name, classic and timeless.

India is pretty but naming kids after places is a over done now. Plus, I find that Indian people find it funny when (tends to be white kids”) non-Indians are named after their country Grin
