And just because a baby hasn't been born yet, does not mean for one second that it isn't a baby!! A lot of women I know, including myself once the babies name was decided, called their baby inside them that name. I think it's horrid of you, just because the baby hasn't been born to make a baby any less special.

Holly Willoughby and Davina McCall both have a Chester. I like it. And MN is the last place to ask for baby name advice. Unless you are calling your child something dull like Matthew or Eleanor, then your child will be bullied, apparently.

If you honestly can't tell the difference between someone pointing out some of the negative connotations, when specifically asked to give their "honest opinions" on a hypothetical baby name, for a child which has not yet been born and asking posters to publish the names of their existing children so that you, some stranger on the internet, can take the piss, then I really can't help you Hun 😂😁😜☀️♥️🏇.

I find it a bit cumbersome. I don't know why but it doesn't flow. Can't imagine shouting it out across a crowded playground.

I've not met a pet named Chester.

Kids will always come up with nicknames, as will other parents, and the 'drawers' and 'molester' sadly do both easily go with / rhyme with Chester.

I love Chester! But I was a big UK hip hop fan early naughties so Chester P was kind of a hero through my teens

Theres always a danger that when people seek honest opinions that they may not like them.

For me, Chester is in the pet name category. That's not mean or nasty. It's just my opinion on the name. Just like I asked my DH his opinion on names for our bump and he's laughed at some of them, said he associates a name with dickheads because 'every X I've ever met has been one'. It doesn't mean every X is the world is a dick. It's just his opinion.

People have different tastes. It's why we aren't asking friends and family their opinions on names.

The thread title is "honest opinions". Not "please say my baby name is grate

Mumsnet is great for baby names imo as it is the only place you seem to get honest opinions. But it isn't for everyone. The good thing about it is that it isn't compulsory to consult Mumsnet before you name your baby. So if the op doesn't want to know what Mumsnet thinks, she doesn't have to ask.

Of course not everyone is going to like a name. That's only natural. The important thing is that the op likes the name, as I've said a few times already.

I also said earlier, that I bet that the op wouldn't like my dcs' names either, as we all have different taste. The crucial difference is, I am not asking anyone for opinions on my children's names.

If the op loves the name, good for her. It isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's not a terrible, offensive name, which nobody should ever use, like Adolf or something. But since she asked, no it isn't to my taste.

I certainly won't be posting my existing children's names so that you can rip the piss out of them . What an unpleasant, bullying individual you sound. Since Mumsnet is so appalling, maybe you could, you know, not come on here spouting your nastiness and trying to goad people into letting you make fun of their children ffs. Because, really, it's not making you look great and it isn't too pleasant for us either.

When you say it's an old name, you mean as a surname? Or a place name? I can't think of anyone with Chester as a first name from more than about 40 or 50 years ago, if that.
