We're not Welsh (DP has a Welsh grandfather though), but I really like it.

What do you others think of Seren as a name? We have a DS (Jude) already...do they go nicely together?

Beautiful name and goes lovely with Jude.

lostfrequencies · 17/05/2019 08:20

I love it.

Usuallyinthemiddle · 16/05/2019 23:12

Stella is star too. I like that as well. Shame about the lager. If you like Seren choose it!

Usuallyinthemiddle · 16/05/2019 23:10

I think it's lovely. She was my favourite bit of the song in that CBeebies show years ago! The Welsh one. Abbadabs? It's not common here. Jude is.

Tillygetsit · 16/05/2019 23:03

Pretty. Lovely with Jude too.

Proseccofuelled · 16/05/2019 21:40

Ah a school ‘ex’ I get it now !

SnowyAlpsandPeaks · 16/05/2019 21:21

@Proseccofuelled They were 13 when they went out! Then he had a few others before me at 15! Lol as I said she was one of my best friends in school, and she was such s lovely girl, that being an ex didn’t even come into my mind! Now if I was told in my twenties that dp fancied a name of an ex there would have been all hell to play! Lol

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/05/2019 19:51

I love it, gorgeous name.

CloserIAm2Fine · 16/05/2019 19:50

It’s lovely and quite popular in my part of Wales!

Definitely a girls name!

I wouldn’t personally call a child Star in English, but it’s a perfectly accepted Welsh name without the same kind of hippy connotations as Star would have.

CupOhTea · 16/05/2019 19:40

It always sounds a bit like Sarah gone wrong to me, when someone who isn't Welsh says it...

I don't like it very much and it seemed to be EVERYWHERE when I was last in Wales (a couple of years ago). I think it's quite commonplace there.

MikeUniformMike · 16/05/2019 18:02

It's awful.
It is the welsh word for star, and is pronounced SERR-enn.
I'd say it was the new Shannon.
Cariad is even worse.

CloudPop · 16/05/2019 17:25

Lovely name

Buscake · 16/05/2019 17:09

I know a 9yr old boy called Seren 🤷‍♀️

supersalmon1 · 16/05/2019 17:04

Glad there are some other Seren fans out there too.
Not sure about how Stella would scan with an 'er' surname. It might sound a little bit twee but that's probably just me!

Beautiful name and it does sound good with Jude.

daisypond · 16/05/2019 17:00

How about Stella? Means the same thing.

Spanneroo · 16/05/2019 16:54

We loved Seren for DD2, but when we tested it on DD1 (always worth checking your toddler isn't going to inadvertently say something rude when attempting to pronounce a sibling's name), the conversation went like this:

"DD, can you say Seren?"

Short pause, followed by, "Seren duck, QUACK"

We didn't go for it in the end but I thought it was hilarious at the time Grin

tinytemper66 · 16/05/2019 16:52

Means star and is one of my favourite Welsh names!

goose1964 · 16/05/2019 16:52

It pronounced se-ren. As it's spelt. It would have been my grandson's middle name if he'd been a girl.

LashesZ · 16/05/2019 16:50

It isn't a name I'd go for as a Welsh speaker, just like I wouldn't call someone "Star" as an English speaker, too. It's on par with "Cariad" (love). Names are a very personal decision though.

It's Ser-en, like "seven" without he v but with a rolled r.

SunshineCake · 16/05/2019 16:48

It's a beautiful name but I don't get this thing about names going together. I just named mine and didn't consider how they sounded when called or written together. I just made sure their initials didn't spell anything stupid or rude.

EntirelyAnonymised · 16/05/2019 16:47

BigusBumus. It means ‘star’, it’s a Welsh girl’s name.

Very pretty OP.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 16/05/2019 16:46

I would pronounce it like this:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YuNnQb1h_yk

daisypond · 16/05/2019 16:46

It doesn’t rhyme with heron, though. That’s exactly the problem you’ll get with the pronunciation.

BelulahBlanca · 16/05/2019 16:45

I adore it! My daughter’s name is Russian and we have no Russian heritage. I just liked it!
