Ingrid or Amelie

MaLittleBubbas · 12/05/2019 12:35

hi- previously made thread 'sister for Violet', and after a lot of lovely suggestions, nothing beat Ingrid or Amelie!
I prefer Amelie but DH prefers Ingrid, but we can't decide on one!
also, I forgot to mention she's four days old and I'm feeling a bit stressed because she needs a name Blush
Big sister is Violet.
Which do you prefer and why? thank you x

Ha people saying Amelie is a wet name and for a fluffy girl. 😂
My Amelie is goalkeeper in the local junior football team and plays rugby and street dances.
She's just gone out on her skateboard with her mates too!

MrsBertBibby · 12/05/2019 19:05

Ingrid by a country mile. Strong, sophisticated, serious. Takes no shit. Doesn't have to because people don't give her shit.

Amelie is a name for a fragile fluffy girl who will thrive on male attention.

Greggers2017 · 12/05/2019 19:01

My 11 year old is Amelie, named when it wasn't so popular and her step-sister on her dads side is Violet. They go so nicely together.

Ingrid is a name bullies will pick up on. My ex in laws are of German heritage and all have very harsh sounding names and all kids pick on their names. Unfortunately some kids are horrible.

Clownfish123 · 12/05/2019 19:00

Ingrid just isn't a nice name. I would hate to be called Ingrid. Amelie is lovely, will date though.

GrumbleBumble · 12/05/2019 18:58

Ingrid. I think Amelie will date pretty quickly.

Icklepup · 12/05/2019 18:55

I commented on the other thread but I was hoping you'd choose Ingrid as I just think it fits Violet perfectly!

Violet and Ingrid :)

TurquoiseAndPurple · 12/05/2019 18:51

For some reason Ingrid reminds me of an ingrown toe nail 😂 no idea why. But to me it's one of the ugliest names so I'm surprised by the number of people who like it! Amelie is much prettier and goes with a Violet. I'd be fuming if my mum named me Ingrid if my sister has a pretty name like Violet.

MikeUniformMike · 12/05/2019 18:46

Ingrid. I don't like Amelie and there are lots of Amelie/Emilys around.

FartnissEverbeans · 12/05/2019 18:18

Ingrid is a badass name. I’d like to be called Ingrid cos I’m badass too

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 12/05/2019 16:34

Ingrid without a doubt, it's so strong and classy.
I am old enough to remember Ingrid Bergman however so this obviously colours my view.
Amelie far too over used

YouBumder · 12/05/2019 16:33

Amelie

Ingrid is horrible

Ribeebie · 12/05/2019 16:31

I much prefer Amelie

JohnWolfenstein · 12/05/2019 16:24

We also know two other Amelies and an Amelia who are not in dds class, but around that age. 🤷

JohnWolfenstein · 12/05/2019 16:23

Depends if you want something common or slightly unusual. In DD (aged 5)'s class there is an Amelia, an Amelie, an Emily, an Emilia and two additional Millys. (At least one of the Emilia/Amelies are NN Milly as well!)

So I'd go for Ingrid.

riotlady · 12/05/2019 16:23

Love Ingrid!

Variations of Amelie/Amelia/Emilia etc are too popular these days for my taste

pearldeodorant · 12/05/2019 16:18

Amelie

Definitely not Ingrid. I had a friend at school with it as a middle name and people made fun of her incessantly for years

midsomermurderess · 12/05/2019 16:12

Ingrid. Amelie, like Emily, is wet, feeble, insipid. I have never understood the appeal of names like that.

IncrediblySadToo · 12/05/2019 16:06

Amelie, it’s FAR nicer.

Ingrid is serious & stuffy (sorry, but I’m helping your DD out here!)

LynetteScavo · 12/05/2019 16:05

Nancy

Thertruthisoutwhere · 12/05/2019 14:44

Isolde is gorgeous as is Ingrid. Amelie is nice but over used imo

Bumblebeesmum · 12/05/2019 14:21

Also Elodie

Ok I’ll stop now Grin

Bumblebeesmum · 12/05/2019 14:20

Actually Astrid is probably the 50/50 name

Bumblebeesmum · 12/05/2019 14:19

Heidi is super cool

Bumblebeesmum · 12/05/2019 14:18

Amalia
Adalia

I also wonder if Enid might appeal as its slightly softer with just the d not the g also

bringbackfonzi · 12/05/2019 14:14

Love Ingrid, cool and unusual. You could soften it with a nickname. Amelie is to me a bit insipid and Milly as nn is very popular. As for Ingrid being Scandanavian, well Amelie is French so in both cases you are using a name from another culture.
