Hi all,

Just wanted to get everyone’s opinions on the name Rupert??
Even I feel like it’s an old fashioned posh persons name but I just love it. All of my friends and family are not impressed.

A fogs bsne = a dogs name lol

Pearpickinpenguin · 12/05/2019 09:47

Where I am in Ireland Rufus us a fogs bsne and Reuben became so popular at one point by a certain type of person that its now a chavvy name.

oldishladyinashoebox · 12/05/2019 09:44

Reuben is also still not toilet trained. True story all this. Not just made up because I don't like the names.

oldishladyinashoebox · 12/05/2019 09:36

I know brothers Reuben and rufus.

Reuben I about 4 now. Has long hair and mum still breastfeeds and he has a daily nap at 4.
Rufus is about 1 now.
Mummy is a hippy . Not sure about daddy though.

This family have ruined the names for me though.

Bamb00 · 12/05/2019 09:19

Love it. Name of our cat!

DonnaDarko · 12/05/2019 09:05

I know a Rupert and he's not posh at all. Speaks well but is a total metalhead.

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 12/05/2019 09:05

Bear with me, I thinking about it.....

Nah, too wet. Reuben and Rufus are both lovely though.

MrTumblePulledAKnifeOnMe · 12/05/2019 09:04

I love it, I'm slightly biased though as DS is called Rupert. Always thought his nickname would be Roo, never once called him that, as Roops stuck pretty quickly.

NoSauce · 12/05/2019 08:50

Great name.

MercyBodle · 12/05/2019 08:48

I adore it - one of my favourite boy names.

Moominfan · 12/05/2019 08:48

I think it's just lovely and will age well

MashedSpud · 12/05/2019 08:46

Horrible. Sorry.

SauvingnonBlanketyBlanc · 12/05/2019 08:45

I just picture tartan trousers,sorry

Villanellesproudmum · 12/05/2019 08:40

It’s better than some of the names suggested on here.

mpsw · 12/05/2019 08:28

Rupert and Daphne are the stock nicknames for new young officers in the Army. Lighthouse -in-the-desert types

ohyesohyessyyesyes · 12/05/2019 08:27

Bloody awful.
Try Rueben or Ruben or Rufus if you want to use the nn Roo/Ru.

oldishladyinashoebox · 12/05/2019 08:24

Posh boy name or teddy bear name

AutumnNymph · 11/05/2019 23:18

Bear is the first association I make - we have a 7 year old Rupert close by who nn now has pretty much become Bear,

CocoLoco87 · 11/05/2019 23:16

It's a yes from me because of the bear Blush

Sophronia · 11/05/2019 23:15

I think it’s becoming more mainstream now. I know a 2 year old Rupert who is not from a “posh” family.

SomersetTimes · 11/05/2019 23:13

My sister has a baby Rupert. I was a bit a taken back when she announced the name but now love it as we adore the little chap.

Has grown on me.

Antonin · 11/05/2019 23:10

I wanted too use it but family were down on it and kept saying Rupert Bear. Still think it’s a great name.

Bumblebeesmum · 11/05/2019 23:06

I love it but my husband hated it

Tillygetsit · 11/05/2019 23:05

Ha ha my friend Rupert is a kickboxing instructor. He's Jamaican and totally gorgeous in a slightly scary way so the wimpy posh kid stereotype doesnt come to my mind at all!

AfterSchoolWorry · 11/05/2019 21:20

It's terrible. Sappy.
