Too much? Usable as a middle name? As a first name?

There's another Welsh version of Guinevere, Gaenor. It's probably more popular than Gwenhwyfar, and is often anglicised as Gaynor. Gwenhwyfar is nice too.

PropagandaMachine · 12/05/2019 03:01

I like it. Strong and evocative.

I like Genevieve, too.

MummyBear2352 · 10/05/2019 22:31

I think it's really pretty 😊

Shelbybear · 10/05/2019 22:16

First thing I though of was the lottery. Pretty sure that was the name of one of the machines.

Bumblebeesmum · 10/05/2019 22:10

I don’t like it but don’t hate it

ghislaine · 10/05/2019 22:05

I like it very much. I had a friend called Guinevere at school - never shortened.

Medicaltextbook · 10/05/2019 22:03

It’s growing on me. I haven’t come across anyone with the name. She will probably spend time spelling it to people, which can be tedious. However it happens with all sorts of names - Catherine, Claire, etc. Ann

Pegaroo · 10/05/2019 21:56

I like it ...couldn’t use it as that is what my great aunt used to call girls parts...but I’m sure that was just a quirk of hers and not something other people do!

oohbubbles1 · 10/05/2019 17:59

I've never liked it- not sure why but something about it seems very stern?! although Genevieve is similar and imo much classier and prettier

AloneLonelyLoner · 10/05/2019 17:36

First name. Why not?

Calixtine · 10/05/2019 11:35

Surprised to get such a positive response tbh, my DH pulled a Hmm face (but does quite like it)

I like both Guin and Gwen, and Ginny is a family name so quite like that too Smile

Not keen TBH. The "vere" ending reminds me of "severe".

TatianaLarina · 10/05/2019 08:48

I know the Welsh version is Gwenhwyfar, but that’s not the one on offer.

I think if OP were in Wales, she’d be presenting the Welsh version. Outside of Wales, Guin isn’t an issue.

Peachbubble · 10/05/2019 06:53

I like it

MythicalBiologicalFennel · 10/05/2019 05:40

I like it but I really don’t like Gwen

Guin not Gwen

The Welsh version is Gwenhwyfar which would indeed given Gwen as a nickname. Like a pp says Gwyn is a man's name. So that could cause confusion.

I know of Gwenhwyfars - I live in a relatively Welsh-speaking part of the world-, all middle-aged or older. I don't know any Guineveres, somehow in English it seems a heavier name to carry IYSWIM?

Tavannach · 10/05/2019 04:45

Prefer Genevieve. Guinevere sounds a bit harsh.

MercyBodle · 10/05/2019 04:39

Really lovely - use it as a first name. And it doesn't need to be shortened, but if so, Guin, Vere, Vivi are good.

TatianaLarina · 09/05/2019 22:26

I like it but I really don’t like Gwen

Guin not Gwen.

TatianaLarina · 09/05/2019 22:25

Love, would have used it but it didn’t go with the surname. GFI.

Justlikedevon · 09/05/2019 22:25

Fab, but wouldn't want Gwyn as a nn as to me it's a Welsh bloke's name. Or Vera now I think of it.... Winnie?

DowntonCrabby · 09/05/2019 22:24

Love it!

Blueemeraldagain · 09/05/2019 22:23

I like it but I really don’t like Gwen, which I’m pretty sure it would be shortened to.

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/05/2019 22:22

out = that

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/05/2019 22:22

Lovely name. I knew someone years ago as Gwynne. Only discovered when I went to her wedding out she was actually a Guinevere.
