Middle names for Kaelyn?

liajayne · 09/05/2019 19:40

So basically I want a name for a girl that isn't common, however I don't mind if the middle name is slightly more common (but not super common). I have fallen in love with the name Kaelyn (Kay-Lin - almost like Caitlin without the t) but I'm stuck for a middle name!

I've come up with:

  • Kaelyn Paige
  • Kaelyn Jade

But I haven't fallen in love with these like I have for the first name, so does anyone have any other suggestions? My surname is Robinson so obviously I need something that flows nicely with that - I'm not too fussy about the length as long as it doesn't take 10 minutes to pronounce Wink .

Christ but MN is full of dull Little Englanders bleating on about things being 'chavvy'.

This. It's fucking embarrassing. If anything this thread demonstrates just want a bunch of snobbish wankers Brits are. Have a word with yourselves.

But not a "chavvy" word of course, make sure it's at least middle class.

PropagandaMachine · 12/05/2019 03:29

God, what a bunch of arseholes on this thread.

OP, I think Kaelyn needs a three syllable middle name, would sound good. Kaelyn Miranda or something.

I think one of the problems is th that 'ae' is not a phoneme in English and so it looks 'wrong' which then makes people think it's misspelled

Aeroplane, archaeology, algae, aesthetic, mediaeval, aerosol, maelstrom, faeries, brae, reggae.....

Tillygetsit · 11/05/2019 23:18

God I popped back to see how the OP was getting on with choosing a mn and discovered some patronising pillocks lecturing because they assumed the OP was young Hmm Mumsnet is soul destroyingly vanilla sometimes. (Goes to AIBU in a huff)

SnowdropFox · 11/05/2019 17:49

I think Kaelyn is beautiful. It reminds me of a women on America's next top model called Kahlen but I prefer your spelling.

As for a middle name, I like Marie as pps have suggested. Or

Kaelyn Jane (KJ),
Kaelyn Louise or
Kaelyn! It's strong enough to carry itself!

IHeartKingThistle · 11/05/2019 16:27

I think it's pretty OP. Ignore the twats.

For the record, kaolin is a type of clay. It's just used in that medicine, it's not a medicine in itself. And it's not like calling her Bonjela or something.

pikapikachu · 11/05/2019 16:18

Kaelyn Jane
Kaelyn Ivy
Kaelyn Mia
Kaelyn Aurora
Kaelyn Amelia

Don't go for the Gaelic spelling of the name if you are living in England. I say that as someone with a Gaelic name living in England. Your child won't thank you for it.

pikapikachu · 11/05/2019 11:33

I think many would think Kailyn is a misspelling and call her Kaitlyn

pikapikachu · 11/05/2019 11:32

Kaelyn looks better than Kailyn to me. Kae looks like it would rhyme with Mae where as Kai makes me think it rhymes with tie even though I know how Kaitlyn is pronounced.

Lara53 · 11/05/2019 11:25

Love Kaelyn - Amber, Iris, or Lily

Bigearringsbigsmile · 11/05/2019 10:51

I quite agree that the class system is depressing, but — as a foreigner from somewhere with a far less stratified one living longterm in England — the UK is still very much in the grip of theirs. It isn’t going anywhere soon.

Bouncingbelle · 11/05/2019 01:27

I think Kailyn Amelia would be lovely! Or
Kailyn Emilia
Kailyn Ruth
Kailyn Saoirse

puma84 · 10/05/2019 21:01

Wow how condescending do some people sound on this thread.

And how can you choose a name you'll still like in 30 years? I hated my first DD's name but 17!years on I love it. I loved my other DD's name when I chose it, I dislike it now 14 years on. You pick what you like at the time because we never know if we'll like it in years to come anyway.

I know a lady called fanny. She's a dentist. If fanny can get a professional job then I'm sure kaelyn won't have a problem 🤷🏻‍♀️

And talking of the class system. That needs to fuck off. We got here the same way and we go out the same way. No ones better than the next person. And their name shouldn't define them.

Hallion · 10/05/2019 21:01

Love all the people saying Kaelyn is tacky, but that Caitlin pronounced Kate-lin is absolutely fine. It's pronounced Cotch-leen, Kate-lin is a far bigger abomination than Kaelyn in my eyes.

Yy. And honestly, a name that originated in someone mispronouncing a name from another culture is Wy-vonny or Gooey territory (though I always assume those are urban myths just as much as La-a).

For the people who can't conceive of a Caoilfhionn living without intractable difficulties, some people simplify it as Caoilinn, which should be more familiar in the UK, from people knowing the 'aoi' sound from Aoife and Saoirse.

Kaelyn Eve

user1474894224 · 10/05/2019 20:40

My close friend called her daughter Caylin completely missing the point of the thread.

Refilona · 10/05/2019 20:34

Hi OP, I know people are being a bit blunt but I think they mean well. Your name, Amelia, is so beautiful and timeless, I think that your baby deserves the same.
If you really love Kaelyn, of course go for it, but I do think it looks better with a C and an I instead of an E. And be prepared for people to think about the medicine (I didn’t because I had never heard of it!)
Would you not like to call her Jade or Paige instead? And use Kaelyn as a middle name?

liajayne · 10/05/2019 20:31

I actually like it as a first name. I knew a Felicity growing up and she was known as Flick. Flick Robinson sounds like a pretty cool name.

Since Felicity has been mentioned - I do quick like it as a first name and have thought about using Felicity Paige. I'm not sure about the nickname Flick though - so the reason pointed out above 😂.

OP posts:
MikeUniformMike · 10/05/2019 20:25

I prefer Fliss as a nn for Felicity.
If you like Kaelyn, ask yourself would you have liked it 10 years ago, 5 years ago and will you still like it in 5, 10, 20, 30, 60 years' time?
Like pp, I am guessing that you are young.
I suspect that after years of being asked if you/your DD meant Caitlin/Katelyn etc neither of you will like the name much.

On here, we tend to be blunt. In real life if a new mum said her baby was called Kaelyn, I'd probably say something like "Oh Caitlin, that's pretty ... Kaelyn? That's nice too." but I would be thinking "Hmm".

If you love it then use it. I'd use Paige as a mn. I like the name Paige but it was quite popular about 20 years ago so could seem dated.

PinkieTuscadero · 10/05/2019 20:18

Yeah, I don't think being called Flick would be all that cool when teenage boys started sniggering about flick the bean.

Divgirl2 · 10/05/2019 20:07

Op - you sound young. What you have here is a group of people who's immediate reaction to the name you've chosen is fairly negative. Mumsnet isn't indicative of the entire population but it does show that in some ways your child might be judged for their name. This goes for schools, universities, jobs, their whole life.

Is that fair? Not really, they didn't pick their name, but it is a fact. Countless studies have shown people with "unique" names do less well in pretty much all aspects of their lives.

Now your daughter's name is your choice, and you should give her a name that you can imagine yourself saying upwards of a thousand times a day. Personally, I dislike it for pretty much all the reasons previously listed. I also think phonetically it looks wrong and it doesn't translate well to other languages.

To answer your question Felicity is my favourite. I actually like it as a first name. I knew a Felicity growing up and she was known as Flick. Flick Robinson sounds like a pretty cool name.

liajayne · 10/05/2019 19:55

I don't go around criticising other people's name choices, so why so others do it to me?

The point of this thread was to find middle names that I would consider using - not to bloody slate the name. If you don't like it or don't have a sensible suggestion - don't f*ing say anything. It's not hard is it 🙄?
