Rose

Hi all, I'm expecting a girl and have wanted the name Rose since forever, but have noticed that the name suddenly seems really popular where I live. Is that the case everywhere? Will she be one of several girls called Rose everywhere she goes?

I love Rose, I love how simple and sweet it is. I adore Rosalie too, less popular than Rose, beautiful and can give you nn Rose anyway! Good luck :)

Sybelline · 06/05/2019 12:37

Better to give your daughter your favourite name than to pick another name just because it's less popular.

Call her Rose.

MercyBodle · 06/05/2019 12:35

Rose is no 60 in the UK top 100, and Rosie is at 35. So, fairly popular, but I'd take heart from the fact that 59 other girls' names are more popular! It really depends on whether that bothers you or not. Lovely name.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 06/05/2019 10:32

It may well have a resurgence now as the middle name has become 'normal'.

pollypacey · 06/05/2019 07:01

@purplechandelier I know or have heard of three new babies called Rose in the past 6 months, too. I do still love the name though.

I think it’s a beautiful name, far nicer than other ‘unique’ style names.

Mummaofmytribe · 06/05/2019 01:49

One of my DDs is Rose. Suits her so well. She's in her 20s now. She's absolutely beautiful and mess with her at your peril - she has thorns too 🙂

Smoliver · 06/05/2019 01:28

I've only ever heard it once in my area. I remember thinking though how pretty it was to hear the name. I mostly hear Ava, Poppy and Isla around here, so I wouldn't worry too much about your daughter being one of several girls named Rose Smile

aibutohavethisusername · 05/05/2019 23:19

I’m Rosemary but am known as Rose.

I’ve mainly heard it as a hyphenated middle name for little ones.

Thertruthisoutwhere · 05/05/2019 22:04

Really beautiful and elegant

Starlive23 · 05/05/2019 21:58

No, I know no children named rose so can't be too popular. It's a really classical, beautiful name OP, good choice.

purplechandelier · 05/05/2019 21:57

We have a 3 month old Rose. We are both teachers and hadn't heard it as a first name very often (only once in my case) however when we had already decided on her name we then came across 2 baby Roses who had been born in the few weeks before our daughter! Plus Ashley Banjo from Diversity called his daughter Rose in February and Kylie Jenner said she considered it for her daughter last year. So I do think it is on the rise.

BarrenFieldofFucks · 05/05/2019 21:55

We have a very fiesty little Rose, who does not like it when people call her Rosie by mistake. 😁

We love it, clearly, and have not yet come across another. Lots with the middle name Rose however.

mogtheexcellent · 05/05/2019 21:50

Rose is lovely and very jealous as DH vetoed it so DD has it as a middle name. She uses it for pretend play though. Grin

No Rose's in DDs 180 pupil school. I know of a rosa and a rosalind. I don't think its massively popular.

Shadow1234 · 05/05/2019 21:46

Lovely name, but I prefer Rosa.

Helenluvsrob · 05/05/2019 20:23

My Rose is nearly 20 and never met another of that age. She is never “Rosie” though through her own choosing and has always corrected people from very young 😂.

It’s a great name to grow with and be anything you want. It has no “ type “ i reckon.

FuckingHadEnough · 05/05/2019 20:20

I love Rose and wanted it for my daughter but our surname doesn't sound right with it. I know a few people who have it as middle names bit I don't know any who have used it as a first name.

Emelene · 05/05/2019 20:14

Rose is stunning. I'd have considered it if I didn't have a botanical name myself. Grin

Sophronia · 05/05/2019 19:08

Rose is lovely. Much nicer as a first name than a middle name.

Toesesareroses · 05/05/2019 18:19

I have a daughter called Rose. Have loved it since I read a book with a heroine called Rose as a teenager (A Little Love Song by Michelle Magorian btw!), and still love it, and it was never in question that our girl name was Rose.

However there are three Roses in her 2 form intake at school (Foundation). And lots of others in the school, not to mention those with it as a second hyphenated name. Very rare that we go to any party or group session without meeting another. So yes, it does seem to be very popular around here, basically the Louise of the current generation.

I don't think that should put you off if you love it though. It's classic and timeless IMO!

(She's Rose btw and nobody calls her Rosie).

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 05/05/2019 18:18

I have a Rose. She also gets called Rosie.

DobbysLeftSock · 05/05/2019 18:05

Love it but am biased, as I've got one Grin. Only close family use 'Rosie' and she's the only one in her 2 form entry year group at school. There was one other Rose at her nursery but she was 2 years younger, so definitely not overly popular as a first name in my experience.

OldAndWornOut · 05/05/2019 17:59

Rose really is lovely, now I come to think of it. Smile
Just Rose.

DramaAlpaca · 05/05/2019 17:58

Gorgeous name. It's wasted as a middle name IMO.

ProperVexed · 05/05/2019 17:56

My favourite girl name is Rose. I had boys....so called the dog Rosie. Beautiful name.
