Just for fun, if you got to choose your name when you were a child, would it differ to what you'd choose as an adult?

5 year old me: Kimberly after the pink power ranger, or Barbie Blush, or Lightening don't ask

Adult me would choose Chloe, my favourite girls name.

My actual name is very plain and boring and lots of other MNetters agree!

I wouldn't like another name i like mine

LightDrizzle · 06/05/2019 22:15

I note a lot of us hanker after Anna! Interesting.

LightDrizzle · 06/05/2019 22:14

As a child: Elizabeth Hartley Rose 😂
As an adult: Anna or Lucy.
My name is a bit shit. It was very unusual in 1970, but in the 80’s a soap character had it (not Kylie), so it had a spike and has since sunk. It’s naff and there are wanky variations on spelling it. I have the original spelling. I don’t think it’s very me.

SayNoToCarrots · 06/05/2019 22:12

My name

Thertruthisoutwhere · 06/05/2019 22:11

Child me - chloe anderson (not my name i just loved both those names.

Adult me- astrid/ blythe/candy

Puffykins · 06/05/2019 22:07

Child: Diana, or Pandora

Now: something like Amaryllis, Isadora, Ursula, Sybilla, Desdemona, Calyso, Demelza, Esmeralda... (I have given DD one of those names though)

Megs4x3 · 06/05/2019 22:06

I love my name and always have. I can’t bear it being shortened though.

Miljah · 06/05/2019 22:02

My actual name is MC classy enough- but also a popular choice among the transvestite community... 😉😂

Miljah · 06/05/2019 22:01

As opposed to Vanessa which was my parents second choice girl's name. No 1 boy's was ... Gary. 😂

Miljah · 06/05/2019 21:59

Sebastian or Gabriel. 🙄😂

user1496959500 · 05/05/2019 22:28

I wanted to be a Samantha or a Daisy.

Now I’d love something classic like Anna or Emma.

iklboo · 05/05/2019 22:21

I wanted to be called Rachel.

Stravapalava · 05/05/2019 22:18

I wanted so badly to be Alison or Jessica when I was a child.

Nowadays, I love my name, although it's not one I'd "choose." If I absolutely had to, it'd be something like Eleanor or Harriet.

BoomZahramay · 05/05/2019 22:16

As I child, I wanted to be called Shirley!

As an adult, maybe Jessica or Madeleine.

TillyTheTiger · 05/05/2019 17:56

As a child I'd have chosen Bethany or Cordelia.
As an adult I absolutely love my name and wouldn't change it.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 05/05/2019 17:55

As I child I want to be called Abigail or Emma.
Now... I have no idea I think I’m happy with my name as it is.

SimonJT · 05/05/2019 17:52

I wanted to be called Aladdin as I fancied him.

I changed my name a few years ago, but not to Aladdin!

Mollie85 · 05/05/2019 17:50

I’m a Kirsty and I wish I was a Kirsten - I just think that that ending is a bit more classy

Failing that, Lucy 😆

GeorgeTheBleeder · 05/05/2019 14:43

As a child? My two favourite fictional heroines were both Josephine, so I’d have been happy with that.

As a younger adult .. Consuelo, Cosima, Willoughby. My life might have been so different with a properly romantic name ...

But I have a deep love for jolie laide, earthy, Laurentian sounding names: Maud, Gudrun, Ursula ...

BlueMerchant · 05/05/2019 14:33

Child me was Laura ( short phase of wanting to be Annalise or Charlene).
Adult me is Anna or Alice.

SingingSands · 05/05/2019 14:28

I always wanted to have been called Laura. It was my favourite name as a child and I still like it now.

Interestingly, I found out in my 20s that I had been called Lauren for nearly a week^^ after I was born, before my mum changed her mind!

tomtom1999xx · 05/05/2019 14:12

( not sure where that grin came from as Ashley is a nice name )

tomtom1999xx · 05/05/2019 14:11

As a child I always wanted to be called Ashley Grin

Clownfish123 · 05/05/2019 14:09

Child me - Isabella or Sophie
Adult me - hard to say but probably Alexandra

EverythingComesBackToYou · 05/05/2019 10:52

Child me - Sonia or Kylie after the pop singers

Adult me - I'm happy with my name. It's a good strong name. Not too common but not so uncommon that people don't know how to pronounce it. Not too girly or cutesy but definitely a female name. It suits me and is the only decent thing my mum ever gave me in life!
