So, here it is, the fourth(!!!) Guessing Game baby names thread. Shock

All credit to @scotstar for creating the game, back in March 2018. Can't believe how far we've come!

Previous threads here:

1: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/3189874-guessing-game

2: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/3207745-Guessing-game-II

3: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/3262724-Guessing-game-III?pg=1â„´=

The game is simple. Guess the name the poster is describing, then it's your turn! Make the clues as fiendish as you like. Grin

All are welcome to join in! @FintyTin, @Ladywillpower, @LadyGAgain and @DuggeeHugs, come join! (Plus others I've forgotten)

@Clettercletterthatsbetter has guessed Clara!

OP posts:
LadyGAgain · 11/09/2020 09:26

I'm back! What a week! Sorry for the wait.

Catty and calculating and the centre of society tittle tattle this person was powerful enough to rule but criticised for being a lapdog.

LadyGAgain · 09/09/2020 23:02

You're so good at clues! Not sure I'm clever enough but I'll be back with something!

finallychangedmyusername · 09/09/2020 19:55

Yes!

"Violet, you're turning violet!" - an infamous phrase from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

And she's no shrinking violet. Wink Grin

Over to you!

OP posts:
LadyGAgain · 09/09/2020 12:04

Violet?

finallychangedmyusername · 09/09/2020 11:05

The clues refer to a phrase/saying and there's a literary/film reference in there too.

OP posts:
LadyGAgain · 08/09/2020 23:06

Stumped but haven't given up!

finallychangedmyusername · 06/09/2020 09:26

Possible easy one now:

She's becoming herself! And not diminishing as she does so.

Ellmau · 05/09/2020 14:44

Oh, and hello was Lionel Richie.

Ellmau · 05/09/2020 13:05

Yes, obv far too easy!

Lion the animal, royal one of Edward III’s sons was a Lionel, Tap dancer Lionel Blair, and sport Lionel Messi.

finallychangedmyusername · 05/09/2020 09:26

Hi @Ellmau! Lionel?

OP posts:
Ellmau · 04/09/2020 17:29

Hello! You might say he’s a bit of an animal, but a royal one at least. He also tap danced his way through life before turning to a popular sport.

finallychangedmyusername · 04/09/2020 06:45

Yes @Ellmau, Karen!

The internet has renamed the entitled white woman "Karen"; Megan Mullally portrays the very spoiled and privileged Karen Walker in the TV show Will & Grace.

Singer Karen Carpenter of The Carpenters is the 'warbling woodworker', and the (almost) successful entrepreneur is Karren Brady (almost as she has two rs; there's nothing 'almost' about her phenomenal success Grin).

The names Katie and Karen both come from the name Katherine.

Over to you!

OP posts:
Ellmau · 04/09/2020 06:20

Karen?

LadyGAgain · 03/09/2020 23:18

Jemima?

finallychangedmyusername · 02/09/2020 09:43

Edit - ALMOST a successful entrepreneur... Grin

OP posts:
finallychangedmyusername · 02/09/2020 09:40

Martha is one of the names that's really grown on me.

Next one. Grin

Entitled she may be (Megan's certainly is), but she counts amongst her a warbling woodworker and successful entrepreneur. She comes from the same place as Katie.

OP posts:
LadyGAgain · 01/09/2020 23:08

Hahahaha! Yessssss.... well done
! Over to you xx

finallychangedmyusername · 01/09/2020 20:03

Ooh, Martha? Martha Stewart as the businesswoman, the home help is traditionally/biblically called the Martha?

OP posts:
LadyGAgain · 01/09/2020 08:02

I've learned something new - thank you!!

Next clue:

An astute business woman and foodie might holiday on a summer island - but only for the wealthy! Excellent as the household help; even if unhappy with their position in their new life.

finallychangedmyusername · 31/08/2020 22:19

Lara is used in many languages. The novel is Doctor Zhivago (with Larissa/Lara as the heroine). And you're quite correct, the video games references Lara Croft (Tomb Raider). Finally the TV show is Twin Peaks, featuring actress Lara Flynn Boyle.

Your turn! Grin

OP posts:
LadyGAgain · 31/08/2020 22:16

Ah ok! Lara?? Croft. And then I have no idea. Please explain. I think my brain needs reigniting after some annual leave GrinGrin

finallychangedmyusername · 31/08/2020 22:00

You've got the right letter but the wrong sex! It's a girls name.

OP posts:
LadyGAgain · 31/08/2020 21:54

Ok. Not finding this easy!
Leo? Tolstoy, Ninja Turtle, no idea about the video game Blush

LadyGAgain · 30/08/2020 23:33

Oooh great clue! I shall have a think Grin
