Fíadh or Grace

HarryPottersSecretSister · 02/05/2019 15:13

Which do you like best please?

Am Irish, living in Ireland by the way Wink
I understand that Fíadh probably won't travel well (pronounced FEE-AH or Fia?, it means 'wild' so we're considering Rose as a middle name: Wild Rose)

We were (we thought) 100% sure this baby would be Grace but now we're wobbling and I feel weird for doubting a name that I was o definite about (even when TTC) so would love your opinions.

Thanks a million Smile

This post is over a year old, I'm guessing the child has a name by now!

Viletta · 24/09/2020 13:10

Fiadh would look asa male name to the international community, and in Europe people would not know how to pronounce it. Thinking of her working in an international companies and signing her name in emails for example.

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 24/09/2020 08:42

Fiadh

I would not use Rose though it's too common a middle name (I have it)

Fiadh Rosalie
Fiadh Rosalind
Fiadh Rosemary
Fiadh Rosa
Fiadh Daisy
Fiadh Violet
Fiadh Acantha
Fiadh Briar
Fiadh Lavender
Fiadh Primrose
Fiadh Clover
Fiadh Willow

Zombie thread...

MariaDingbat · 23/09/2020 10:31

I love the name Fiadh and it's my top girls name but my husband sadly doesn't like it, not helped by how popular it is here at the moment. Fiadh Grace or Fiadh Rose are both lovely names.

Thistlegirl4 · 19/09/2020 13:40

Fiadh Rose sounds lovely. I know Rose is used alot as a middle name nowadays but it sounds beautiful and flows really well with names.

Fifilo · 19/09/2020 13:16

My granddaughter Fíadh Grace is 1 today. I love the name especially when playing with her and singing FIA

CamVegOut · 03/05/2019 13:41

Fíadh definitely.

implantsandaDyson · 03/05/2019 13:36

I was going to be a Gráinne, my mum changed her mind to their second choice just before she registered me in the hospital. Apparently it came as a bit of a shock when my Dad appeared at visiting. She took an aversion to it after a very long labour Grin. He still mentions it with a sigh forty odd years later!

Laodamia · 03/05/2019 12:44

The problem (for me) with Gráinne is that it sounds so similar to the Irish word for ugly. Only a smidge in the difference.

BertrandRussell · 03/05/2019 12:31

“BertrandRussell completely irrational and illogical hate of the name Grainne”

Grin fair enough. We were going to use it, but changed to Grace at the last minute. The child concerned- now an adult- wishes she was Grainne......

@Jadetreesbringluck thanks so much 😊

@harrypotterssecretsister - wow!! Well thats the decision made so! They do go together wonderfully.

What great taste we have!

Best of luck with everything x

HarryPottersSecretSister · 03/05/2019 11:38

@Jadetreesbringluck I have an Oisín too. I think those two names go beautifully together. Clearly you and I have exceptional taste 😉

@Laodamia knew Siún had to be a Galwegian hipster! 🙌😂

Jadetreesbringluck · 03/05/2019 11:35

@harrypotterssecretsister happy to help!!

For another person asking - yes it can mean Deer also. As can Oisín (my sons name!) so I have too little deers ;)

Fiadh - 'of the wild'.

Cant say I have had much problem with the spelling although I am in Ireland. It is much more popular now alright - I didnt know any Fiadh's when I named her 7 years ago!

Laodamia · 03/05/2019 11:32

The Siún I know is a member of the Galway Hipster Fianna Grin

Pinkkahori · 03/05/2019 11:31

I know of one Siun. I'd say she is in her fifties.

HarryPottersSecretSister · 03/05/2019 11:28

@BertrandRussell completely irrational and illogical hate of the name Grainne 🙈
No reason- think I associate it with that annoying woman who used to be on Bosco when I was a kid 😂

@Jadetreesbringluck I could kiss you! Heart is broken trying to figure out the necessity of the fada. You're obviously in the know. Brilliant, thanks so much for that 🙌👍

HarryPottersSecretSister · 03/05/2019 11:25

I've only seen Siún mentioned on here! Never heard of an actual person names Siún

OP posts:
HarryPottersSecretSister · 03/05/2019 11:23

@Laodamia yes! Posted that below which is why the spelling is non negotiable for me. Fia is deer but Fiadh is old Irish meaning wild or of the wild/ wilderness 😊

OP posts:
ILoveMaxiBondi · 03/05/2019 11:23

Isn't 'fia' the Irish for deer?

Maybe thinking of Fianait?

HarryPottersSecretSister · 03/05/2019 11:16

Aoife and Niamh have been consistently popular for decades now though haven't they? I know a hundred of each and they range from 1 - 45. I think name trends move much slower in Ireland than in the UK.

@Laodamia so true! I definitely know a hundred of each at every age.
Interesting re slower name trends- could have a point there!

BertrandRussell · 03/05/2019 11:13

I hate to do the “I know you said x or y but what about z” but if you like Grace, have you considered Grainne?
