Would you use a name that is from a popular tv show?

Thinking of names for a possible son, and I cant get past a name I love, and I like no other names. However, it is a name which if people watch the show will immediately make the connection. He's not a major character, but I've not heard of any other person with that name!
Would you eyeroll and judge? Or would you not even think about it?

Iv just had my baby and named her an unusual name, however one that was very well publicised in the news.

this news item was 6 years ago and id hoped long enough ago to not get many comments etc.

but unfortunately there has been and its annoyed me a bit.

i think a name from GOT will get a lot of eye rolls/comments etc but if you want the name, who cares?

i love my daughters name and know that in time people will get over it and hopefully the news story will become less talked about.

the same will happen with GOT.

On the other hand, he might get a load of smart-arses saying "a boy has no name" to him...

I'm hoping that by the time he and his friends are old enough to watch game of thrones, it will probably be long forgotten!

Ooh, Jaqen is lush, number 1 in my GoT top totty chart.

Not really sure it’ll work, though.

MonstranceClock · 01/05/2019 21:32

No I don't have a new partner, so no worries there.

I actually know a female called Tyrion, who was born long before game of thrones came about! She's never been phased by it.

I was hoping it was going to be Tyrion to be fair!

TheCraicDealer · 01/05/2019 21:27

I know a Theon and a Khalessi. I mean whatever floats your boat but they'll really date. But Jaqen was a minor enough character it won't be as tied to GOT as those two, or Arya. I'm also not keen on people who are massive fans of franchises like that giving their kids names inspired by them rather than picking a name for the child, iyswim. It's like they're an extension of your hobby rather than a person in their own right.

Are you planning a baby with a new partner? How would they feel about using the nickname of your late DH?

TurquoiseAndPurple · 01/05/2019 21:19

I've never seen GOT. I think it's a lovely name!

azulmariposa · 01/05/2019 21:19

I've never watched it, so have no idea what the character is like, but I like the name.

GraceMarks · 01/05/2019 21:17

On the other hand, he might get a load of smart-arses saying "a boy has no name" to him...

Crystalblue13 · 01/05/2019 21:17

I know a Theon and a few Aryas! Jaqen is ok, at least it’s not Joffrey or Ramsay!

MonstranceClock · 01/05/2019 21:15

I don't like Jackie as a full, proper name. My daughters class is full of really out there names so I'm hoping I won't be judged in this area at least!

OP posts:
GraceMarks · 01/05/2019 21:14

I don't know... he was a bit of a dick as far as minor characters go, although the actor is kind of hot. I would just go for Jack, which could become Jackie.

Or Hot Pie.

WoollyMummoth · 01/05/2019 21:14

Afraid I’d eye roll and judge. Made up tv names just sound shit and silly. Why not just call him Jackie which is great on it’s own.

FlowTeeBowTee · 01/05/2019 21:11

Cross post.. oops
But anyway I’m not sure people would really link it with got, years down the line anyway.. I watch it and I always thought he didn’t have a name!

FlowTeeBowTee · 01/05/2019 21:08

Is it Gendry? Tormund? Joffrey? Jorah?

itscallednickingbentcoppers · 01/05/2019 21:06

I wouldn't OP 😬

MonstranceClock · 01/05/2019 21:05

It's not Jorah (although I really love Jorah too!)

It's Jaqen, but he would be Jackie for short.

We need to know the name Grin
Tyri? Grey? Kahl?

ThisIsTheEndgame · 01/05/2019 21:04

There was a Khaleesi in my daughter's class. What name is it? Benjen, Rickon, Eddard? Don't call him Joffrey please.

elQuintoConyo · 01/05/2019 21:04

I asked my daughter, Seven-of-Nine, and she said she's never been bothered by it Grin

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 01/05/2019 21:04

Hahaha! There was a Thorin (Hobbit) at DD’s nursery.

Is it Jorah? I think that can work as a name. Some will work, some won’t, some are awful characters, some aren’t.

MonstranceClock · 01/05/2019 21:02

There's a Theon in my daughters class at school!

CloudRusting · 01/05/2019 21:02

If it is a “proper” name that just happens to have been used in a tv series that would be fine. If it was made up for the tv show eg Game of Thrones then it would be a no from me.

Fatted · 01/05/2019 21:01

I know an Ayra (From GOT) and a Jaxon named specifically after Sons of Anarchy.

I don't know. In some ways I think it's nice, in another I think it's terrible.

MonstranceClock · 01/05/2019 21:01

It is a made up GoT name Blush

The shortening of it would be same nickname of my late husband, which I think is why it's appealing to me most. And it's a little different.
