I love this name, but have started hearing it around a little bit. Do we think it could end up being the new Ava/Isla etc?

I’m a teacher and really do not want a top 10 baby name for upcoming DD. (We have a Niamh already 😍)

I think all the pre-Christian whooshed into favour at around the same time, late 60s/early 70s. Out with the Seáns and in with the Fiachras.

Beautiful name. We have an Isla and an Eilidh. Lots of confusion over how to pronounce Eilidh in the south east of England!

😊 I have Irish grandparents and we are forever back and forth from county Galway so yes, Irish heritage. Thanks for the opinions, I love the name so now just to convince DH

To be honest I find Orla quite dated and not in a granny chic type way more in a Jackie/ Nichola/Joanne type way. I'm in NI and would have known quite a few Orla's (in its various spellings) .
To me it would fall in with Sinead, Seana, Bronagh - just the wrong side of old fashioned.

Orla was our number 1 choice for DS and know a couple of under 3s. Doubt it will ever be top 10 in UK but I could see it being top 50 for 2018.

If you like the Irish connection and -ah sound then Grainne or Aine might work

I have one (chose it because DH has Irish roots) and I thought it was a nice unusual name but I have met several others. There was another one in her tiny nursery too!

It's gorgeous. I work in a school and there are no Orlas. No Orlas in my children's school either.

It's a beautiful name. Fairly popular - I know two Orla's both from Irish backgrounds.

Be prepared though - I have an Irish name (was born there), live in England and have all sorts of variations of the pronunciation.

It's certainly becoming more mainstream. I would previously have presumed some Irish heritage but I know 3 under 2 and the parents don't have any. I think it's the kind of name which sounds nicer with an Irish accent.

I love it but know 2 born this year in my wider friendship circle. Had to scratch it off the list for baby girl #2 for that reason.

My oldest who is 5 is orlaith and i love this spelling.most other orlaiths we know spell it orla so its still different

It’s a nice name, but I agree with a pp that it sounds awful pronounced by non-rhotic English accents. I ruled it out because of living in England, and then DS was DS anyway.

I love it. But where are you based? In lots of English accents it would be Aw-la or Or-ler, both of which would annoy me (might not annoy you though).
