Hi everyone! This is my first post ever on mumsnet! Smile

I’m 26 weeks pregnant with baby boy no3. I have a George & an Edward (nn Eddie/Ted) & a husband called Henry.

We love traditional names but as you can see we seem to be following a pattern of royals which was never our intention Grin

So... my favourite name is Hugh. Hubby doesn’t really like it but says I can have it. Most of my friends go quiet when I suggest the name too! Could I pls have honest opinions & alternatives.

Names we can’t use: Charlie, Alex, Oliver, William, Arthur.

Thanks xxx

Love your name choices OP. I think James or Oliver would go really well. I would have said Henry until I read the full post! Hugo is also fab, not as fond of Hugh though.

starkid · 02/05/2019 16:58

Not fond of Hugh I must admit.

How about Hector?

Bouncingbelle · 02/05/2019 16:13

I LOVE the name Hugh! Tho it does sound a little like someone is being sick when you say it (but i still love it).

My only other suggestions are Andrew and Robert.

BigusBumus · 02/05/2019 15:42

I love Hugh and Hugo equally.

Rupert (Roo) is my 2nd fave name. After my number 1 favourite, Miles.

IdaBWells · 02/05/2019 15:30

My 18 yr old has a good friend in her year called Hugh and the name has really grown on me! I also love Henry Grin.

Pegaroo · 01/05/2019 18:33

Hugh and Hugo win for me.

Antonin · 01/05/2019 13:20

Our friend from Norfolk (older with the accent) would pronounce Hugh as Who.

tiramisu1 · 01/05/2019 12:47

I think Hugh is a great name! Much more classic and less posh than Hugo.

Or how about
Thomas
Quentin
Andrew
Louis
Magnus

George, Eddie and... Theodore? (Theo) Rupert? (Roo)
I LOVE the name Rupert and have 2 very similar named children - would have used it for my 3rd but she was a girl!

ladycarlotta · 01/05/2019 09:59

Ralph means vomit too! ha! Don't let this silly stuff put you off, OP.

Justus22 · 01/05/2019 00:00

I really like Samuel, Zachary, Isaac, Leo, James, and Benjamin. I think Hugh is not a name I'd pick but I don't dislike it, your child will make the name, I always find lovely children with names I'd not initially been keen on sway my opinion.x

I love the name Hugh! So underused at the moment. I prefer it to Hugo.

spiderlight · 30/04/2019 13:54

The first name that sprang to mind was Max.

Flamingosnbears · 30/04/2019 13:23

Hugh! silly predictive text!!...

Flamingosnbears · 30/04/2019 13:22

yuiojl · 30/04/2019 13:03

@Mama3boys I know! My father in law also pointed it out.. think it's a slang term from an older generation ;) definitely not used now as much! Hughie is so cute for a baby.

Mama3boys · 30/04/2019 11:11

Thank you so much for your suggestions everyone! It’s taking me ages to figure out how to actually reply to this thread Blush i’m completely rubbish with technology! There is nowhere at the bottom to click ‘reply’ so hope I’ve done this right.

I really like James, Michael, Jude & I would have Ralph in a flash but unfortunately my husband has already said no Confused Benedict is also a great compromise.

Thanks for your honest opinions on Hugh. Can’t believe Hughie means vomit Grin my dad said that but I hoped he was just saying it to put me off! Unfortunately it still hasn’t put me off, I still love it. Will go back through all the suggestions and see if I can add any to my list....gonna keep working on the hubby with Ralph. I think that really works...

George, Eddie & Ralph Star
