Margaret - what do you think?

This is a name with great significance in my family so I would love to honour my DGrandmother by using it -
But what connotations does this name give to you? Is it too old fashioned? Or a beautiful classic?

Also love Greta, Margalit, Marit - all are international variations of Margaret. Also the variant Margret.

We have a duck called Margaret, so it's a jokey old lady name to me.

But I love Meg or Maggie.

I love Margaret because of family connections but only used it as a middle name for dd because my mother was another Margaret who openly disliked her name.

It’s a beautiful, strong name though and Maggie is a pretty nn. I met one at a playgroup the other day and commented to her mother how lovely it was.

Maggie Gyllenhall is a Margalit rather than a Margaret. I only know this because I remember an interview where she said that she only discovered this when she looked at her birth cert before getting married. Frazzled my brain that she reached 30 something without her parents mentioning it!

It's my mother's name and she's never been overly fond of it. My mum is ace but even still I don't think I would use this name for a daughter's first name. Middle name, absolutely.

Daisy has long been used for Margaret, especially in my Grandmothers era. I think it comes from Marguerite as in the flower, known as a Daisy.

We are having it as a middle name, as its a family name. I don’t love it enough as a first name though personally.
