Edgar or Edmund?

I don't really like any boys names, but dh loves these two. I don't have a problem with either and think Eddie is quite sweet.

I just don't have a preference of one over the other so looking for opinions, or any issues with either? They both sound fine with our surname.

There's a real trend for wannabe middle classes giving their child ridiculous retro wannabe regal or aristocratic names. What's wrong with James or Matthew or jude or louis or something normal for gods sake

I prefer Edwin to either Edmund or Edgar.

Of Edmund and Edgar I prefer Edmund.

I can't see why Edmund or Edgar would get a child bullied. Am I missing something.
I prefer Edgar. Its strong and masculine yet still gentle and sweet. Its what i call a good boys name.

I love Edmund, but ds1 was going through the Peppa Pig phase when I was pregnant with ds2. Edmund elephant is so irritating! Otherwise I would probably have used it

I like the gothic edge that Mr Poe gives to the name Edgar. Edmund is okay too though. Edwin is dweeby.

I love Edmund and really like Edwin, but for some reason dislike Edgar. It sounds sort of oily and unctuous to me.

I actually love both of those names, and Edwin.

As PP have said, kids get bullied because other kids decide to bully them: if it's not the unusual name because they're called Tom, it'll be the specs and if they don't have specs it'll be that they're bad at football and if;s not that it'll be something else.

In my experience, kids with unusual names don't notice as small DC, wonder WTF their parents were thinking in their early teens, and then decide they like them after all by their late teens/early twenties.

I love Edgar. However I cringe at Edmund, Edwin or Edward.
I almost love Alfred (or Fred). Can't abide Alfie.
(Nought as queer as folk?, I know). I'm voting 4 Edgar, anyway.

I guess it means Edgar Allan Poe to me (nobody is cooler).

There's also Edison. I know one who is a teen. Quite cool, not many about. He does go by Eddie though!

I like them both! I have an Edward, which I love even though it's popular (we only know one other of the same age who is always called Eddie).

DH vetoed Edmund because of Blackadder and TLTWATW, but I don't think either of those associations would get a child teased. And I love Edgar.

Edgar! He’s a good guy in Lear and Edgar Allan Poe is a cool namesake. Also a nicer sound than Edmund I think.
