Curtis or Koby?

Middle name Thomas Arthur (not like that really matters) 😂

Really hoping for a boy because I cant find 1 girls name I like but out of the 2 above which is nicer? Thanks 😁

Asking for a choice between 2 is asking for opinions.

Koby is awful, sounds like something thing you'd call a pet imo. Curtis would be my choice.

@Miljah Chardonnay 😂😂😂 there isn't any children with those sorts of names at out local school! I don't think iv seen any 'chavvy' looking parents or children either...

Koby makes me think of Kobe beef. Curtis is better.

I much prefer Theo to Curtis or Koby.

I generally prefer DC to be given proper, full names (like Theodore) but Theo by itself, IMO does stand up alone.

While I think it's admirable that you 'weren't brought up' to associate certain names with social class, society does.

Arthur would sit next to Sophie and Charlotte at school; Koby would sit next to Chardonnay and Tyler.

Nixen Koby is a Polish name, derives from Jacob I believe. Coby is the English version, again, a Hebrew name derived from Jacob.

OP personally I would go with Koby, if your surname begins with a T, as i think that would sound better than Curtis.

Kobe/Koby is a form of beef that is fattened with beer in Japan. I certainly wouldn’t name my kid that.

Curtis is fine, if a bit meh.

@Nixen sorry, I didn't ask for opinions, I asked for a choice from two! Didn't tell people to start going on about how my child would be seen as lower class because of its name! I wasn't brought up to think like that.

I have a nephew called Curtis who is 4. The name reminds me of soul singers. One of my brothers' takes the piss out of the name for this reason.

Koby (however it is spelt) just seems trendy.

Arthur and Thomas are old fashioned but solid. They are the type of names I would choose for a male child though I work with far to many many men of different ages called Thomas, David, John and Richard.

With your child's name imagine them as a 30 year old going for a job that leads him or her to be the CEO of a major company within 5 years.

Then imagine him or her as PM 14 years later meeting with other world leaders.

What name(s) would lead them to be taken seriously? What name(s) do you think in Western society would make them be passed over?

That's partly how I chose baby names.

@Nixen the only Coby I know lives in a 1.5 million pound house and goes to school with my niece, thats were I heard it 😂

@Nixen I think that only happens if you surround yourself with snobs IMO, not to be rude, but I wouldn't judge a child of a name it had been given! I dislike a lot of names but don't then see that child as 'lower class' 😊

Never met a Koby. Did go to school with a girl called Cobi, so that would put me off it. I don't love Curtis, but it's perfectly fine.

It’s not ‘pearl clutching’ 🙄 It’s not wanting to make your child’s life harder than it needs to be by saddling them with a name that has certain social class connotations.

@Schuyler I like Koby, I agree Curtis is a little on the chavvy side so won't be using that, personally don't like Thomas as a first name or Arthur as its to popular there is loads at the school DD is attending! X

Ignore the pearl clutchers. I know a few Kobys and I think it’s a nice name. I’m not a big fan of Curtis. I think Koby sounds better with the middle names you’ve chosen.
