Do you like your name?

As I'm naming a baby girl, I'm wondering what you like/don't like about your name. (You don't have to say what it is.)

I have always liked my name. I like that it's feminine but not too girly or frilly. There's lots of them my age, but that's never bothered me - and there's a few different nicknames anyway. I never felt my name was boring or shared by too many people, although it was popular. I always liked that there were lots of famous women in history with the same name.

I didn't like that my siblings had a story to their names, and mine was a name my parents "just liked"!

So what do you like/dislike about your own name?

No. Far too common in my age group. Usually in a group of ten people there will be another with the same name. It's a really plain simple name. My mother was quite religious and chose this saints name specifically because she's the patron saint of ...................................

Absolutely hate it. Never met another one. Even dh never uses it!!
All dc's friends say its odd!

Despite my name being very popular now, when I was young it wasn't so popular. I've always liked it, lots of nickname options (although I prefer the full version), easy to spell and pronounce, and I've had lots of compliments my whole life.

I don’t hate it. My parents gave me what became a few years after I was born, a top 10 name, where it has stayed for several decades, but they gave me a forrin spelling of it, so I spend my life correcting people. I’ve always been the only one in my class at school, but the class 3 years younger and down has always had at least 2 or 3 per class.

I used to really dislike the link to the location but I’m actually quite fond of my name now and in a way it links back to where I’m from given the pronounciation and they immediately stop thinking I’m American Grin which a lot of people assume!

Sharing names with a place in the US which is pronounced differently to my name as I am from a non English speaking country. It is a fairly common name in my country of origin but whenever I meet someone from outside they pronounce it just like the US place.

When I was younger, I went through a phase of not liking it, but actually, as I've aged, I like it. It is a name that is usually shortened, but I prefer the longer, full version and always introduce myself as such.
Biggest problem is with people spelling it - there are a couple of 'interesting ' options which I really don't like - mine is the traditional spelling.

That's a shame, babyspider. I actually really love the name Claire, but it's true it doesn't lend itself to nicknames... (Doesn't work with our surname at all, so that baby is safe from it!)

I like mine. It's unusual without being weird/not too common. It's fairly long at 8 letters but it goes well with my surname.

No I despise it. I've never forgave my parents for calling me it (Clare).
Its the fact that theres no shortened or friendly version. To me its taken away my right to have an alternative name. Plus its so dull and mundane.
I also hate the way some people pronounce it. I've had Cluuur and Cliiiiiire, at least say it properlyAngry
My sister is Aimee. Granted that's not exactly beyond the joke with the imagination but at least she can be Aim /Aims.
Of course I'd never change it though as its the only name my mum and dad gave me.

I hate my name. It's a very 80's name that has dated really badly, and was fashionable for young parents in the 80's.

I wish my parents had given me a more "classic" name that didn't age.

It's short (4 letters), is no-nonsense and not flowery or twee.
There isn't anything I dislike about it.
