Do you like your name?

I hate my name. It’s very much of its time and thus is dated. When it appears on tv the character is always an airhead. And in the real world you’re more likely to hear it on a council estate than at a polo match. I’d much prefer to have a classic name like Elizabeth, Joanna or Rose. Something with no preconceptions.

Like my name, but on my wishlist would have been a more internationally friendly name with a more common spelling. Non-native speakers of my mother-tongue always mispronounce it and even native speakers often misspell it.

Nope! I'm Sian and get called everything but, the most common being Sean, Si-Anne or Se-Anne. Drives me insane and made sure my daughter has a name you can't mispronounce!

Always really disliked my name, to point where I cringe when people say it in a sentence.. I was the only one in school with my name but i've noticed a couple of people who have named their children it (Paisley).

I don't like mine. It is a typical 1950s name which always appears on Mumsnet lists of 'Names that should never come back'. It suggests a solid matronly woman in a cardigan.

@Scoose my sister is a Josephine- she’s 20 now and I’ve always been jealous that she has a long, unpopular but known name that has lots of options for nicknames.

She goes by ‘Fee’ at the moment but has been a Josie, Jojo and Posy depending on what ‘phase’ she was going through 🤣

I quite like mine. It's pretty 80s and there were others in my year at school with it but that didn't bother me. I like that I've never had to spell it out (unlike my surname) and it's not too girly or too plain.

I love mine now. It’s Ashleigh- so V.90s but I’ve only ever met a handful. I like the shortening of Ash though my mum hates it. It’s never bothered me when people spell it Ashley-though sometimes people email me and spell it wrong which is a little grating as it’s right there!

I hate my name. It's a virtue name, and far too much to live up to!

People often expect me to be Black-African as well (It's not as unusual as "Blessing" or "Godslove" etc)

Meant to add, using the Irish version was very trendy in the 60s in Ireland.

There is no nickname but I have sometimes been known by the pronunciation small children sometimes manage.

I hated my name when I was a kid there's was no one else right through primary and secondary school with my name except for peoples nans apparently. I don't mind it now I never go by my full name anyway always a shortened version. I've only ever met one other person of a similar age to me with my name (Josephine)

My name gets suggested here occasionally as a nice Irish name. My BC name is actually the English form of the name. Both names are fine and I have never had strong feelings about my name either way.

I learned when I was about ten that it was an aunt of mine who chose my name because my parents couldn't decide between Suzanne and Susannah. Dad was the traditionalist and mum wanted the 60s-tastic Suzanne. Sometimes I wish dad had prevailed.

Not so keen on mine I was one of a few in the class always known as first name surname first letter...

I hate my name. I’m named after a city and a well known celebrity heiress but it’s been spelled in a youuuneek way. The mispronunciations that come with it along with constantly having to spell out my name really does not help.

I have always hated that it can't be shortened.

I love that you can't tell my age from ot. I could be 100 or 1.

Mine’s a short, simple, solid “classic”, although less popular now than it was when I was born and in the preceding years. I still occasionally meet little ones with the name.

It’s pretty unobjectionable as names go, but I’d love to be called something similar but a little more distinctive. There were always others in my classes at school and now that I’m a parent there’s always another one at every playgroup, ballet class, etc.

I gave my children unusual but not unheard-of names as a result.

Love mine. It just suits me. It's also super super popular and has been for the last 30 years and gets a lot of negative comments on here even though I'm fairly sure it's a little less popular today.

As a PP said, I live abroad and am so glad it works in other languages too; in France they even question the name as they say it's odd for a british person to have such a french name! (I take this as a compliment as I love the fact it's easy for them to pick up)

I don’t like my full name at all, but it shortens to Kate, which I love.

No I hate mine. It's frumpy, ugly and people always expect a middle-aged woman not someone in their twenties.

I've never met anyone my own age with it.

I love mine, I half wanted to give my daughter the same name but maybe that's a bit odd

I have a unusual name that my dad actually made up. (So he thought) google wasn't about back then so couldn't just google the name meaning..
Don't know anyone with my name, however my name actually has a meaning behind it as it is the name for something quite unpleasant but not well known and when I first heard the meaning when I googled my name I found it quite funny, I actually love my name because my dad made it up and it's personal to me because it was given to me by my parents
